Alternate brake pads replacement for E89?

Guys, I was having my E89 serviced at PML today, and was being told by the CSA that my rear brake pads need to be replaced soon in about 10,000km for $500+. My car is currently at 24,000km mileage, still under PML warranty, and has 18" stock rims.

1. Is this normal to wear out the stock brake pads at 24k? I am not the most gentle driver around, but I definitely didn't abuse the brake or track the car.

2. I am eyeing some big brake kits, together with a new set of rims+tyres. I know it sounds stupid to spend like 20 times more instead of having a simple brake pad replaced, but I am quite poisoned after seeing the souped up bimmers here. :woottt: I know BMW performance brakes for E90/E92 fits an E89 for the front fine. I also saw 4/6-piston Brembo big brake kits. But all of those seem to be for the front only, what do u guys normally do about the rear brakes? What are my options for after market brake setup on an E89?

the stk brakes on ride def not confidence inspiring.

if u mod the rear brakes (as in new rotors n calipers like brembos), your hand brake is no longer usable

can u live w that?

i think most just change front to BBK n rear just change to aftermkt pads like EBC so that we still have hand brakes when required

i myself havent tried it yet, changed front to 4 pot brembos n waiting for the below to arrive next mth

on local road, upgrade the front should be very good already since must forgo e-Hand Brake if install a 4pot in......( for rear )

alternatively is to upgrade to better brake lines for rear then front upgrade to BBK......
( no need to drive so fast so many cam on SG road )

Thanks guys, looks like we are pretty much stuck with stock setup for rear. I don't want my car to roll down Mt Faber by itself when parked without the e brakes!

Those on 4pot front, do u have any feedback on brake bias? I thought our z4s being 50:50 weight distribution, the front and rear brake components should ideally deliver torque in the same ratio as the front-to-rear weight distribution, i.e., same.

i think thats reason y brembo GT for z4's front is designed 4 pot rather than the std 6:4

if yours is fully stock brakes then go get a new set ( brakes dont play )
