Anybody can recommend where to get my car for an oil service apart from PML? How much does it cost? Also, I have been getting coolant warning light, is this due to leak or need to change the coolant since car is 4.5yrs old?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Check out the listings for workshops in the forum. Guesstimated price should be around 120 to 150 bux I think. As for the coolant warning light coming on, it could be a leak, resulting in low coolant level. Get it checked out by the workshops recommended in the work shop list. I do believe the majority here go to BVO..you can look for Ah Wee.

For the coolant, maybe it is just the radiator cap. You can just buy from Eng Soon. Check the cap area for signs of leakage.

On the coolant warning light, try topping up with water first. If the light doesn't come back, means you were juz low on coolant which is ok. But if the light comes back, then it could be a leak in the radiator or in the reservoir tank. When that happens, send your car to a workshop (listed in the SG. WORKSHOPS folder above) to do a pressure test to see where the leak is coming from if the leak can't be easily seen. Forget abt going back to PML. The workshops listed here can do a cheaper and faster job.

As for oil change, the price shd be abt $20 a quartz. Not sure how many quartz u need. On my 5 series, I will need 7 quartz. You may wish to take the opportunity to try Torco Oil posted by UM2. I wld have tried it if not for the fact that I have juz changed my oil.

Cheers!

Re: Anyone can recommend Oil services apart from PML?

Hi all,

I have been seeing such posting about servicing/ oil change outside PML. From the cost and resale value point of view, is it adviable for new car to go to these workshops as well ? My 2004 318i E46 Sport edition is hitting close to 18000km and is due for first servicing in couple of weeks time.

should I go to PML or the workshops menationed here? How much $$ shoudl I set aside ? I hope to hear advice from all the experienced brudders here. Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone can recommend Oil services apart from PML?

if you want to preserve your warranty, i wouldnt service car outside during its warranty period. will be very easy for PML to say you didnt come to us and blame outside workshop if anything goes wrong.

but as to resale value, with cars being valued the way they are, i.e. paper value + scrap, dont think it really matters that much.
and if someone does buy, they normally look at price, mileage and condition.

but it doesnt hurt to be able to say it has a full service history with main dealer.

Who not to go to is Star. Well actually the oil service was fine. $88 bucks for Castol synthetic for my e46 318 for which I also got a free car wash, BMW Umbrella and $20 NTUC vouchers. But....they did a 20 point check on my car. Tell me need to change the fan belt, a/c belt, the tensioners for both and something else. Wanted over $800 for that.
Didnt believe that for a second. Indeed the main belt needed some attention, as initial drycracks were appearing. But to assume the tensioners automatically needed changing. Forget about it ! Went then to Riverview. All I needed was a main fan belt change. Tensioners were fine. While there I had things serviced that really did need attention. Excellent service, good prices, great staff. Call Vincent. Thumbs up !!!
