Hi bros with young kids

Anyone using a baby seat at the back row of a 2-door (coupe or cabrio) car? How inconvenient is it, or not at all?

Re: Baby seat in a 2-door car

Tobynik and Stevenwu say it's ok. :)

For me kiasi robot, I think very young baby a bit troublesome, especially if inlaws are helping out....just my 2 cents, I've never try before so don't whack me....

Re: Baby seat in a 2-door car

if u r carrying from outside and the kid is heavy, u gotta step 1 foot into the rear floor for support, carry your kid up, be both heads outta the car, take ur foot out, fold the seat back (optional)...

if u r carrying from inside, u gotta somehow balance and get outta the coupe/cab without ur hands...

the grandparents generation will hate it...

it is not easy to get the seat into the rear too.. so do not expect to mount and dismount frequently...

cab with roof down is very easy... maybe even better than sedans.. but u won't be retracting the roof down just to get out... cab rear seats might be smaller, more upright etc...

if u ask me i think it is ok... not ideal but not as troublesome as it sounds/looks...

my 2 cents :)

agree....

E92 doors (3 series coupe) are longer than the E90 doors (3 series sedan)

I have seen a few with such an arrangement.....not entirely efficient I feel, and it hurts the back and you end up having to swing the coupe doors wider out... hitting the car parked next to you to gain accessibility to the rear.

as your kid gets older.... weight / arm strength of the parent becomes an issue... imagine your kid is sleeping, the parking lot is tight... do you wake your kid up to strap them into the baby seat? lets not even discuss infants / new borns cos the are so delicate.

maybe practice with a bag of 10kg rice first...hehe....

Re: Baby seat in a 2-door car

If u take junior out only on weekends I guess it's ok. But if you need to ferry the baby on a daily basis I really think it's a no go. Also if it's a e92, I think it's very hard to park and unload the seat without leaving big dents on other cars. Doors are just too long and u need to open them wide. I normally drop the wife somewhere, unload then park. This process has to be reversed on the way back...

Thanks all for sharing your experience. It does seem to be as inconvenient as it looks!

Porsche 911 coupe or mercedes sls will not have the problem as their doors are normal sized....

Sls amg doors swing out 36 cm then upwards.... Narrower footprint than even normal car doors.

No lah. Was considering swapping the E85 for a more practical 4-seater cab, like the E93, for family-ferrying, but I think sure regret. Lose-lose situation, not as fun as E85 and not much more practical coz of this baby seat issue. :-(
