updates. called PML to check on warranty early this morning for 1 hour (no one pick up or keep asking me to call another number/person to check which led to calls which are unanswered). Finally got a lady who checked with SA and told me battery is only 2 years warranty. Contemplated my options and decided to go to change at PML since car is still under warranty. Called BMW Assist to request for jump start of car and operator did a check and told me that the car has extended warranty (3rd year) by PML which covers the battery as well. Unfortunately the technician who came to my assistance does not have the battery (90 amh) with him so could only perform a jump start to let me drive back to PML.
SA at Kampong Arang tells me battery is covered under warranty but can only collect car tomorrow! I was like WTH. She tells me as car is under warranty, they need to perform "diagnostic checks" etc. Just like the "diagnostic checks" they need to perform when I went in to claim for faulty tail lights which needed one whole day to change. Looks like our ultimate driving machine also requires ultimate slow servicing by PML. sigh...

don't complaint la...they are doing their best liao...I claimed a lot of good stuffs from PML as well...all big big equipment....and they just changed it without making any noise. As long as your car still under warranty, just bring it in. They will do the rest. Rest and relax! PML is a very reputative company...

it's just quite inconvenient to be without the use of the car for 3 days (yesterday, today, tmr) when one would think that a battery change should be something that could be done in 1 hour max.
anyway SA called and car won't be ready today. diagnostics revealed problems with valvetronic, some gasket, and some other stuff which they will be replacing under warranty. at least the car won't be sitting idle in PML waiting for someone to just change and register the battery.

Best monitor is a regular direct measure of the battery's voltage via, for instance, a Scanguage. Drops below 11 volts on the run and you will know something is going to happen.
Else, watch for corrosion, stain, leak and sulphuric smell, but this is more tedious given the location of the battery.
In general, expect to change a battery every 3-4 years, assuming you do not run an ICE system, drive lots of short trips, leave your car unstarted for too long too often.....
