Bird shit

Hey guys, just checking how I can remove the stain to the paintwork of my car caused by an errant shot from a bird. Cleaned it off as soon as I could but noticed a faint imprint on the paintwork when viewed in the light from an angle :(

Re: Bird shit

If u cleaned it off soon enough, it should hv been perfectly fine. Problem normally arises when it has stayed there for hours or even days.

Perhaps u can just bring your car to one of the polish shops to do the removal for you. Should cost you very a few bucks I reckon.

Re: Bird shit

ya, mayb it had stayed there hrs...
wat i wld do normally, wax the area leave it for 20 mins under shade n wipe it off.
its gone...

Re: Bird shit

You prolly din have enough of protection, either that.. the birds shit so "kao" that it practically just ate into ur wax and wat not.. usually it should not be a prob for groomers to buff it off.. they just cut cut cut.. and tada.. no more stain.. BUT then again.. depending on how bad is ur stain la

Re: Bird shit

it can probably be polished off...question is how much paintwork and clearcoat are you willing to sacrifice to remove that faint imprint that you can only see from a certain angle?

Re: Bird shit

Yeah, it was there for maybe 3 hours max. Is there any way of preventing this from happening either by using a sealant or other forms of wax protection as we can't be there physically to wipe it away when it falls....esp if parking in open.

Re: Bird shit

i don't know of any sealant manufacturer who will guarantee 100% protection from bird shit.

the only product i can think of is the 3M automotive film: sort of like shrink wrapping your whole car. downside is you trade shine/gloss for absolute protection from watermarks/bird shit etc . a bit pointless in my opinion...

I'll avoid parking under tress as far as possible. I'll rather my car be hot than kena bird shit.

Re: Bird shit

Hi hcsiow,

I believe you need not worry too much. The spot should be slightly duller than the rest of the paint. A wax with very slight cleaning properties should be able to get rid of it. It shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to apply and buff off one section.

If you do not have any wax on hand, you may wish to try Meguire's NXT in liquid wax with little waiting time between application and buffing. It's very easy to use and has very mild cleaning properties.

Regards,
Alvin.
