BMW 520i Engine clattering sound.

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if the clattering is normal? I checked with PML, and they mentioned is due to the turbo charger unit...

I recorded the idling engine sound with my bonnet open.

yeah, it's normal .... it seems like the tiak tiak tiak sound is worst (louder) in N20 compare to N46 due to turbo

just to make you feel better ... even N55 135i/535i also got this sound ... now not so sad right?

Luckily my exhaust so loud I can't hear any tiak tiak tiak in my engine....

If you do spend a few hours a day standing next to your car with the engine running and bonnet open, then you should buy an electric vehicle. They are so quiet that they use speakers to create engine noise so pedestrians know a car is coming.

future electric car will be equipped with a music knob to set from no sound to simulated v10 ... shiok ah !

My previous golf mk5 made in 2004 have the same clatter.
