BMW Digital Clock moves faster than norm

Hi all,

Wanna check if any else has his/her clock in the E46 moving too fast (eg. +5mins evey 1 mth), and hence need to adjust periodically? If so is the clock component in the instrument cluster or somewhere else?

My car is 2003 E46 318.

Thanks for all feedback.

Re: BMW Digital Clock moves faster than norm

dear drift838. Now the whole world knows you're driving too slow. To slow your clock down you must drive faster, as a faster reference frame to the rest of the world slows down your clock according to the Time Dilation Factor of:

SqRt (1 - S squared). Where S is the ratio of your speed with reference to C, the speed of light.

The reason behind it being that acceleration forces warps space-time in the 4th dimension by a factor known as the Lorentz Transformation so to an outside observer you are moving slower than usual. This is a cheap, almost no-cost remedy for a clock thats turning too fast.

Thks. I am heading for the expressway now. perhaps drop in a SC later
But seriously, anyone has this prob?
I wanna deal with it before the warranty is over.

Thanks.

All digital clocks run on a crystal oscillator to keep track of time. It sounds like your oscillator is off the blocks and has drifted its frequency. Report this to PML and they should warranty the clock.

Cheers

Thanks.
Any idea where the crystal oscillator is located? Is it in the instrument cluster?
Regards.

Re: BMW Digital Clock moves faster than norm

The oscillator should be located in the instrument cluster. This is not a wearable part and PML should be able to help you FOC. Go ahead and try..
