Whether you're taking the streets by storm in an BMW M5 or 3 Series, cruising in a luxurious 7 Series or transporting the family in an X3 or X5 SUV, your BMW's tires were selected for superior performance. To get the most out of your vehicle, you want to be sure your tires in good-as-new shape. One of the best ways to do that is to ensure proper inflation.

How to check tire pressure:
Proper tire pressure is key for improved handling, safer driving, and better fuel efficiency. In fact, properly inflated tires improves fuel economy by approximately 3.3%, according to the Department of Energy.

As your tires lose air with every day that passes, our Plaza BMW Service Department suggests following these simple steps to checking your tire pressure:

- Find the recommended air pressure for your vehicle in your owner's manual or on the inside of the driver's side door. This number, measured in "psi" (pounds per square inch), is the lowest you should inflate the tires and is suggested by the manufacturer.
- Check your tires while they're "cold" - meaning not right after the car has been driven. Wait at least three hours after travel to check the pressure.
- Unscrew the valve stem, which is the thin extension located near the hubcap.
