Now that's one arse-kicking engine! Easily 500+bhp? Should hit 600+bhp with some mods?

stock should be about 400hp. with mods abt 500+ bhp. 600bhp not so easy unless stock internals are changed and stuff like racing cams, bla bla bla.. Worrying thing is if the chasis based on the 5,6 and 7 can be able to take it. What they should be doing is making a mid engined car that would rival the R8 with variations of this engine. Now thats gonna be some arse whopping and should give porshes a run for its money provided BMW is able to get the handling and chasis right, and most importantly, optimise the weight of the mid-engined car so that it would be extremely compliant for handling and high speeds.

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

So this is the block for the X6?

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

gd bye N54

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

RS6 is already 580ps. and anything 600+ is enzo territory. The power race is getting out of hand. no wonder the japs used to have that unwritten cap of 280ps.

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

This is definitely going into the X6 to rival the Cayenne Turbo:woowooo: . As usual, they cant make a non-///M engine more powerful than the M5/6, but this is gonna be a repeat of the 335 vs M3 story.

I think the shareholders at BMW GMBH must be thinking....make another bi-turbo engine and let it sell like hotter cakes.

This thing is awesome....suits Bengs like me.:)

///M cars heritage is parallel to formula 1. and formula 1 may be allowing turbo's in the future, so the whole aspect for BMW might just very well change accordingly.

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

With the heavy exhaust system placed up high, the center of gravity and roll center are going to be affected... doubt this engine will be used in 1 or 3 series without serious changes to the chassis to allow it to be mounted lower.

Or it could be like the S54 that would have to be tilted to allow for such changes?

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

M3CSL? hehehe...
or the next M5?

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

i doubt the M cars would ever have forced induction. Goes against their philosophy. anyways the m cars is more than just their engine. it's the whole package.

an analogy would be the S600 vs S65.

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

Don't larf.

Daimler Benz actually developed a range of inverted "V" aero engines (DB 600 series) for use in German fighters like the Messerschmitt bf 109. Presumably they had some sort of dry sump as a wet sump would make no sense in an aero engine.

Re: BMW Unveils New Bi-Turbo V8 Engine

i read somewhere that this engine will be kitted in the new 5 series which is due in 2009
