Brake fluid - check and replace schedule

Hello all,

for the E46, it is recommended that the brake fluid be changed every 2 years, right?

Can anyone advise

1. if car under warranty, should you go back to PML for this? How much would it be?

2. what would happen if you exceed the timing by, say, 2 months, so as to schedule it with an oil service or inspection?

3. anything to look out for during the brake fluid change?

thanks...

If ur car goes back to PML periodically, it will be changed under the Inspection I but they will use DOT 4 oil. If u want, u can always get it changed outside for DOT5.1 I am using the Bendix DOT 5.1 If memory serve me right, it selling for $22 and the labour is prob 25 or 30 for the change. 1 litre will suffice...

If u r particular enuf, after the change, drive it out and get the ABS activated so that the fluid within the ABS pump will get changed as well and return back to the workshop to do another flushing... :)

What's the difference btw Dot 4 and Dot 5 piggyboyz?

If i remember correctly, the DOT 5.1 fluid is a derivative from DOT 4. It has a slightly higher boiling point than DOT 4 but it is not Silicon based. One thing the article forgot to mention is that Glycol and Silicon fluid do not mix well. They tend separate like oil and water.

I am also usinf DOT 5.1 but from Mintex. Quite readily available at Sin Min.

Cheers
