Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

Just to take things away from the Malaysian dark election.....here's an incident that my friend encountered a few weeks back. A fellow F30 driver and he finally post this on stomp after much persuasion...Below is the link if you want to watch the video.

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/this_urban_jungle/1771608/cabby_turns_aggressive_after_korean.html

I saw the full length of the video and he also shared the experience with me. It was ridiculous. The Korean girl borrowed the cab driver's mobile phone to call my friend and actually charged the air time that was used.

He claimed that she was on the phone for 5 minutes and each minute costs 16 cents. So he actually charged 80 cents for the 5 minutes.

On top of that, he did not stop the meter upon arrival of the destination and instead, let the meter run while waiting for my friend to appear at the scene. In the end, the cab fare was S$16.80 instead of the original fare of $8. Of course, during the whole course of wait, he scolded and threatened the Korean lady, which resulted in her being frightened and left crying.

A cabby told a Korean passenger that his machine was faulty when she wanted to pay for the fare with her credit card. When she said that she could not pay in any other method, the cabby turned aggressive, confiscated her card and threatened to bring her to the police station.

This prompted the Korean passenger to call her friend, STOMPer C, to come to her aid. The cabby, however, also yelled at C and accused him of using vulgarities, while he himself was hurling obscenities.

Said the STOMPer:

"I am terribly disappointed with this cab driver's attitude.

"My Korean friend took his cab and only had her credit card to make payment with.

"However, he said his machine was spoilt.

"My Korean friend asked how, at which point this cab driver surprisingly threatened to send her to the police station and confiscated her credit card.

"Frightened and scared, she called me and a few of her local friends to 'rescue' her.

"She was totally terrified when I arrived, and was crying badly and shivering.

"So I took a picture of his car plate and approached him.

"Noticing the cab driver shouting while I took his cab plate, I quickly took a video as evidence.

"As you can see, I haven't started talking and he kept pointing at me and accused me of saying a vulgar word.

"It happened at outside the 7eleven outlet near the Marina Square taxi stand at 6:44pm on April 24.

"Even the two security guards came down. Honestly, I wanted to follow the cab driver to the Police station but my friend was devastated by the incident.

"After the end of the video, the cab driver charged towards me, right in front of my face, and said 'I am a high class gentleman, if you think I think bully your friend, slap my face!"

"Totally shocking. Anyway, I believe Marina Square has security cameras - another solid evidence.

"I couldn't take a video of him provoking me as he had became very aggressive.

"I took a few days thinking whether to bring this thing up, however, the more I look at the video the more I feel disappointed by the whole incident.

"I strongly believe that all our current cab service standards need to be upgraded and I am not targeting only one company.

"I read many news reports before that people beat up our cab drivers, but I believe its not always 100% the passengers fault.

"I firmly believe somehow the cab driver also provoked the passenger. Why do such cases seldom happen in Japan, where a taxi driver gets beaten up?

"I am a car driver myself and I very seldom take cabs, but this incident has confirmed my thoughts that our taxis need proper higher service standards.

"They are the first service line tourists meet when they arrive at Changi Airport."

Hmmm, personally I feel that the driver will not accuse him of using vulgarities for no reason, it just doesnt make sense.

true as well but knowing my friend, he is a soft natured person and doesnt use vulgarities. But from the video, it can be seen he had gone quite berserk. But i think its the whole event itself and how ridiculous he was, especially charging the air time used on his mobile phone. My friend recorded the conversation time as well and they only spoke for a minute plus, but he claimed it was 5 minutes.

Ok... what about the korean lady, did she use vulgarities. Korean girls are very bad tempered and explosive(sorry to stereotype). Still thinks it is vulgarities that made him go mad.

Haha...plus with their limited vocabularies? hahahaha...damn sterotype la we all! :p
But no matter what, as a gentleman and someone in the service line, cannot flare up like that even if there was vulgarities used. Kind of bad representation to his own image, the cab company and like what my friend said, Singapore.

Re: Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

honestly....why yr friend go down to help if he cannot handle the situation?
ended up posting at stomp?...too 1 sided.
afaik, all taxis drivers can talk wan! ( no need to shout,no need to stomp is only about money!)

Re: Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

then they are many channel to resolve this issue...
for me...if is me lar........
pay first! dun talk too much! then find out what happened! FUCK him then is still not too late...lastly take down his number and complain to the cab company! BUT BEAR in mind it will affect his RICE BOWL!..

Re: Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

agree agree...

actually to clarify..he went down, cab driver turned aggressive, and as suggested by cab driver, they resolved payment first. Then found out the cab fare was initially $8 and then became $16 because he waited for my friend to appear on the scene, so left the cab meter running. On top of that, the extra 80 cents was for the 5 minutes of air time used on the mobile phone.

My friend found the extra fees quite ridiculous and of course sounded it out with him but he turned more buay song. He eventually took down the car plate and name of the cab driver. He has not complained to the cab company though...

Maybe he upset. Because he has a degree, and can only drive a cab? Then he hear Khaw say that he should have spent less time studying.... enough to blow one's top!

Re: Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

talk so much but never post kimchi photo
told u to complain in wanbao or sin ming better, get KFC vouchers and chance to win ipad better.....haha

Re: Cabby turns aggressive after Korean passenger asks to pay fare with credit card

Just pay even if "overcharged"
Take note of the number plate and name, and complain to taxi company

Let them handle, it's not really nice to name and shame , although the taxi driver may obviously be in the wrong.....

He might have a bad incident previously which triggered such reaction
