Changing of Suspension??

Hi Guys,

Come to seek knowledge in regards to the above.

I've been thinking of passing my Car to my parents. Currently the suspension set-up was originally from the last batch of sports edition E46 3.18. As you guys know the ride it gives can be pretty unforgiving especially on bad roads (And they're thinking of driving up and down Malaysia).


Any Recc on parts that needs changing or cost to give it a better ride? I.e a normal 3.18 handling and comfort.

I think you can post in the Bazaar folder asking for a swap-plus-topup with non-Sports-Edition 318i owners. I'm sure there are guys out there who're looking for the exact opposite, i.e. upgrading to a firmer but sportier suspension setup.

Another option is to change to non-performance comfort tyres.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I'll prob be keeping the original sus, still got a few months to deicde the swap till my parents scrap their car. Would changing the tyres to comfort tyres make much diff?

Depends on what tyres you have now, cos whatever difference will be relative to that.

Actually why not let your parents drive your car a few times first and let them comment. For all you know, they may find it ok. Don't waste money changing what you don't need to change if they're ok with everything.

Sports suspension aint comfortable?
I think dont waste your money...I am sure ur parents will be able to cope with it....Ur dad won't be driving hard or fast anyway ( i assume ) but likely comfortably cruising all the way...

Why not do a wait and see. In case parents ok with the sports susp after taking over your ride.

Hehe thanks Dreamdriver but the car was destined to be theirs anyway. It was on loan to me for a year before their car was scrapped

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll let em get used to it first and see how it goes from there. Anyway taking the car apart makes me Xim Tia!

are you sure the last batch of 318s are sports suspensions??? thought it only comes with sports suspension settings???

anyway, the ride is not too hard and unforgiving... your folks should be able to handle it...
