For its Electronic Road Pricing, real-time traffic information systems, and transport initiatives like free early-morning train rides before peak hours, Singapore has received one of ten inaugural City Climate Leadership awards.

The awards are given out by Siemens and the C40 network of cities working to combat climate change.

Award categories range from urban transport to air quality to intelligent city infrastructure, which Singapore won.

Land Transport Authority chief transportation engineer Dr Chin Kian Keong, who helped develop the national road pricing system, received the award on behalf of Singapore at a ceremony in London on Wednesday night (Thursday morning Singapore time).

"The awards are given out by Siemens and the C40 network of cities working to combat climate change."

Is Siemens vying for some contract?

Congratulations, LTA !!!

They should review their KPIs. What good are the best technologies in the world if the freaking roads are potholed or ponded??? Tell that to the poor guy who went through the flooded roads today and then *beep* cashcard deducted. LTA WAKE UP LAH!!!

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

The ERP is a total failure and the Singapore motoring public is made to pay for a system that does not work while increasing the government coffers. It has all the semblance of a high-tech system but really, all it does is to collect money regardless. I've always maintained that if there is a jam, they should turn the damn ERP off because we are paying for a system that does not ensure smooth traffic flows.

They should just start off by switching off the ERP if the road ponds or has potholes. Who in the right mind will pay for a defective product??

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

Likely they would revamp the system and track wirelessly because there is more to be collected. And the gantries cost quite a bit.

You can run but you cannot hide from paying ....... Be realistic not hopeful.

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

I think it is already in the works.
Satellite "tracking", good luck all of us...

LTA evaluating proposals for satellite-based ERP

"We will still need some time to review and evaluate the performance of the proposals... before we can make a final decision on the way forward." - Put across nicely with 'cloud of war'. It already has a working prototype, problem they r trying to "review" (actually to solve) the blind spots around Singapore where the Satellite is unable to track the vehicle i.e. lost track of the vehicle. (I am refering to surface road level).

I never say I know about the project or involved with the 3 entities in the consortium.

Satellite, rocket, nuclear... How will it solve the congestion problem? Or new ways to charge the consumer?

Latter Latter Latter Latter... ok ok, I know I m a broken record.

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

Internally they are trying to resolve the conflict of making more use of underground space (spend more money) vs satellite tracking (collect more money) .....

Of course you can't use a satellite to track anything underground (collect less money) ......

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

Must also award them for making our road more bumpy as well and highest road tax in the world..

Re: Congratulations, LTA !!!

If we are still paying (erp, coe, road tax, arf) then it means we can afford it. If we can afford it mean we can pay more.

If we can pay more then charge more - if you are running a business and your customer has no where to go ..... Why not ?
