Coolant water

Coolant is ethylene glycol with additives. And has standards associated - G11, G40 etc.

A coolant mix of 50% water and 50% EG has a boiling point of 107c which is close to the engine's operating temp.

Personally I prefer distilled water over tap water. And water has a higher specific heat capacity than EG.

I had my first coolant Low message n I had to stop by petrol station to TOP up coolant. The Mechanic used a pressure test to test for leaks but couldn't find any. Then how did coolant level evaporate till warning level? I've owned different cars over 40 yrs n this is my first time with coolant warning. My bmw3 series is only 2 yrs old! Is this a common problem for BMW? Thanks

I would like to say maybe its one off (bad luck). I have owned a few Bimmers thru the years and never encounter coolant warning that early stage (at least never within the first 3 years).
I do encounter my F10 Thermostat spoil within one and half year old .... I called that bad luck too :(

I think the battery water sold in petrol stations are acidic. Better just put normal distilled water or just mineral water or tap water is fine lah
