hihi..
am driving an old 1992 318is (m) coupe.. was told by my mechanic that my extractor gasket is cracked and thus i have a loss of HP and fuel efficiency is down.. :(

since i have to send my car in to fix the extractor gasket, i was wondering if it would help to change my exhuast system (to achieve more low-end toque) and if yes - what should i do?

would appreciate some advice from the "seniors" and experts at this forum..

thanks!

No reason for the gasted to be cracked. I would suspect that the england got some powder and it is the manifold that is cracked. The gasket is basically a thin sheet of metal.

If it is so indeed that the gasket is cracked, replacing it would have to remove the manifold........ so........ another reason to change to a aftermarket manifold. 4-2-1 or 4-1 design is uo to you. What matters is the quality of the welds, material and the part that the pipes join. The main aim is to have smooth gas flow.

happy changing :) :) :)
