if your car's under warranty, no harm just bringing it in for a check. window rattling in early production Z4s is a common problem, rectified by tightening a screw within the door panel. might be the same thing or a variation thereof happening to your cab, if so, covered by warranty.

My experience in the past on my Veedub and current e46 is this.

It is due to the weather strip on the door rubbing against the window trim, usually happens after polishing due to residue wax.

you might want try cleaning it or adding some type of rubber moisturizer.

last time what i did was to apply a little bit of grease. That helped for my VW. As for e46, cleaning the residue wax off was sufficient.

The sound usually came out due to the body flexing. Happens over humps and even uneven roads, even at low speeds.

I use water cloth only. Did not use any chemicals to prevent the problem getting worse. But i did use some car shampoo though.

I had the same problem once before. And since my car was still under warranty, I brought it back to PML. It turned out as what e46sg had said. So they put some kind of tape along the door trimmings and the problem was solved. Please note however that this can only be done if your door trimmings are black and not chrome in colour. One last thing.....be prepared to leave your car the whole day there.

Ok, I should have updated all sooner...

My problem is fixed. I brought the car to PML and they basically applied some substance to the groove where the window edge goes in when you wind up the window. Viola! Creaking is gone! OK, so when you wind your window down, there is like a visible smuge band running along the top of your window, but hey, for me, it's worth the quiet man! Really heavenly!

A week later the passenger side made the same noise, so back to PML. This time, it took less than half a day. Cool!
