How to trust my young kids to take public transport to school by themselves.... like that as parents will worry ourselves sick putting our loved ones in the hands of a few irresponsible drivers.

I think he is, because papers weren't quick in stating that he was a "Singaporean Driver". Usually, if Singaporean, like the case of the cement truck running over the 2 poor boys, newspaper sure announce nationality of the driver fast fast!
Yes, it was - about a day after the incident. Dun bliff me, do a search. I've noticed a bit of a trend with the Shitty Times of late, really - quite careful about "fanning" anti-foreigner sentiments. They are doing the right thing, of course, but it does go against the spirit of meritocracy that every Singaporean's been brainwashed since young from reciting the National Pledge at school.... and that is a personal sticking point for me.
if wanna hire local and give them a higher salary, they will increase the cost of bus rides again to balance out their profit margin. it's the same logic about renovated coffee shops. rent and food cost increase, consumer suffer.

haha but put yourself in a business or corporation owner's perspective, would you be so generous and lower your earning profit? i believe that the environment we are brought up in has molded most of us in a very profit driven mentality. and with that mentality ingrained, we've become self centred and selfish. just look at the haze incident last month, there are people selling a piece of n95 at $50 when there are some less privileged who can't even afford any. i don't blame them for what they did nor am i saying there aren't any generous peeps out there but it's just sad to see that even in times of need, there are people taking advantage of the situation to make profit. that is the sad truth of human nature.
