dent repairs - after effects?

Hi Melo,

Depending on the locations of the dents, the interior door panels need not be removed. Have seen him fixing dents on my door panel without removing any interior panels.

Those closer to the rear will be accessed via the taillights.

Bear in mind that there are "blind spots" on the panels that he will not be able to reach with his hooks.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

I've been to Lye Design, they helped to remove 8 dents from my car. Overall, very happy with the results. One word of advise though, book your appointment before going down and expect to leave car there for a few hours for them to work on it.

There is no need to remove any door panels, they uses metal rod to massage the metal back to its original condition. In engineering term, I think it is called cold annealing if I am not wrong.

I have my dents removed at PDR. They are located at the Capitol carpark. Price is reasonable and quite good job. I have seen them removing dents from the roof of Benz and the owner was quite pleased.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for your info.

The dent on my door is close to the parking strip protector (that black plastic/rubber strip on the side?) I hope thats not a blind spot and he can reach it without taking anything apart...

I'll definately make an appt for the fixing! Ah Lye seems so busy, I can't even get a hold of him for a quotation! The lady on the phone told me I can expect to pay between 80 to over 100 for the fix! I was quite shocked cos I've read about the charges on the forum, so I think i'll have to wait to see Ah Lye personally to get a proper quote.

There are a couple a scratches on the door and a tiny nick on the side skirt (think its gone past the paint and exposing the side skirt material). Is the best place to fix this up Yew Lip? Or can I do this at Sim Wee Guan? After reading some posts I started thinking Yew Lip would be good for sanding and fixing up the side skirt nick, but I know Mike at SWG comes highly recommended for paint jobs. Would Mike be able to work on that nick? Any advice for this matter? I'm not even sure what the M kit side skirt is made of... Might have to call PML to double check.

Really appreciate all the help, if not for this forum I'm not sure where I'd even start sourcing for good workshops!

Hi melo,

If I remember correctly, the first dent is usually $30 and subsequent dents at $10-15 each. The rates at Ah Lye are similiar to PDR, but I think PDR may be cheaper for more dents (e.g. > 10).

I have my very minor dents done at PDR and they managed to get rid of all except 2 which I subsequently did at Lye Design and he managed to get rid of these pesky 2.

On both occasions, it took approximately 30-45 minutes (excluding waiting time). Ah Lye is very friendly and I remember vividly the time I went to his shop. He was away and so I waited for a short while. The moment he returned, he came over to have a look and a short chat took place. I expressed my concern on how I feared those dents were there to stay and he assured me that he'll try his best. After some effort, he got them out and even spared some time to show me a trick or 2 on improving the existing paintwork.

Needless to say, it was a very pleasent experience and well spent job. I didn't make any appointments on both occasions, though I must admit, I went in the mid afternoon on a weekday which is definitely less crowded.

Hope this helps!

there are round holes in the inside metalwork of your door for him to easily slot his tools in to massage the dent back out.

Hi guys

Went down to see ah lye. Mrs Soh spoke to me and explained that they will have to dismantle the door to reach the affected area. Damn suay, cos the line across the door (near the parking strip) is harder to repair. She told me they will have to knock it out, but will try their best to do it gently so there might be no need to respray. Ah Lye was there and he took a quick look and confirmed the diagnosis. Price is a bit "prettier" too, cos it's not the typical smaller dents which can be massaged out. They were very friendly and were not pushy at all, telling me to go home and think about it since It's probably going to cost around 270 bucks including respraying. They sound very experienced with the e46, even telling me where the reinforcement bar is. Mrs Soh assured me there would be no problem with rattles.

My parents got a contact from a former ferrari mechanic and went to have an assessment at the workshop. Was quoted less and they decided to go ahead with them. i cannot argue cos I'm not paying, plus the dent was my fault  Lesson learnt: never attempt to park head first in a side lot at cineleisure carpark at 2am in the morning when you're groggy and everything has been going wrong for you the entire day. :verysad: Just one of those days...

Will update this thread when the job is done. If its done well perhaps others at the forum can consider getting quotes from them in future. (I was told the guy who started this shop imparted his skills to Ah Lye! But unconfirmed as I did not manage to ask Ah Lye  )

In terms of Paintless Dent Removal, I would go to Ah Lye anytime than PDR at Capitol carpark. My family been with Mr Soh for very long time liao and he is really a master and yet so very humble.
I don't mind paying him a bit more as I know he will TLC our car as if his own. The best part, you simply can't rush him that is why there is always a long queue in his appointment book. He usually work till very late night in his shop (behind close door). I admire his hardworking and humble attitude.

Few years back when he was "free-er", he did a custom-make grill for my car and front lip. Power man but I heard nowadays he seldom take such jobs as he is tied down by the huge demand for his services.

Cheers!

Ps : My most recent job is my A4, PDR at capitol could not remove a "line dent" and Ah Lye say no problem!!!!!!!! (2hrs job)

which is this other workshop you mentioned that your parents got a better quote from?

Hi,

so sorry for the delay in giving details of the job. Internet has been down.

The dent has been handled and I must say the job was well done. He spraypainted part of the door as he had to do some hammering on the outer side and the paint was then damaged. According to my dad, the paint he used is original BMW paint. He did a great job, and was right on schedule as promised.

The workshop is over at Sin Ming autopoint (same building as Juzz4cars).

Name card isn't with me right now, but I'll get some details for the forum tommorow in case any one here would like to get a quote for future jobs *touchwood*

once again, sorry it took so long to get back with details.

The workshop we used is:

Ah Chow Motor Co.
#01-05, Sin ming Autocare building.
Ph: 64534149

Guy to look for is James. Nice guy, decent with pricing too.

I did some repair previously at Lye's Design. Very good workmanship but take a long time (ie. min a day) n need to travel to AMK.

On my recent visit for quote, I found Mrs Soh's estimations to be a little "OFF". Somehow, she counted a lot more dents than I could really see and quoted me $180 to 200. With that, I tried someone else.

U can try this mobile fellow which is pretty good too:

Mr Gary Soh
HP: 96858366

He comes to ur place (with appointment) and fix the dents on the spot. Took him 45 minutes instead of the day required at Lye Design and he counted and charged me a lot less at $80. That saved me a lot of time and taxi $ too.

Found Gary to be friendly and honest and his workmanship equally good. Understand he does a lot of PDR jobs for car dealers like showroom cars.

U can tell him George from Pasir Ris (with the 520) recommended him.

;)
