Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

Many drivers like to stop in yellow box. Do you find them inconsiderate and irritating? There were so many times I was unable to come out from a small road due to them. Sometimes, these are SBS buses.

And I am not talking about those that cannot stop in time and end up in the yellow box. Those could just be incidental or poor judgement.

I mean those who has time to judge, and who purposely stop his car in a yellow box. Bochap mentality kind.

Just find them plain inconsiderate. And irritating.

generally i think its ok. only if there is a major fender bender, then every1 for himself.

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

I face this everyday, when I exit Golden Shoe carpark on Phillip Street. Some bastids will squeeze into the yellow box and then road hog on Nicoll Highway later. They are not in a rush, just refusing to give way to you.

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

yeah, traffic's pretty nasty there around knock off time.

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

Cars who blatantly ignore box junctions are very annoying. I find traffic police here hardly watch for such offenders. And they can cause so much havoc at busy junctions. Even new yorkers respect it more. Prob cos their cops issue tickets for this offence more often.

I also hate when i wait behind the yellow grid for a gap to open in my lane, only to have a car in the neighbouring lane -who has inconsiderately gone into the yellow box and is now stuck in his own lane- tries to cut into my lane when my spot opens up. Always drives me crazy.

Exactly....and this is part of the reasons why drivers will squeeze into the yellow box, afraid of others cut into their lane...:shakehea: All in all, one word - KIASU !!

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

I believe everyone experience being blocked some time or other., but i think its unavoidable. Having driven on foreign roads, Singapore is already a very pleasant place to drive and we have great traffic controls and regulations. Just an example, I drive in Indonesia and the traffic would be crazy for hours. Everyone is blocking you and forget about giving way, car are also very close to each other during peak hours.... literally almost touching your side mirrors on both sides. Therefore, whenever i drive in Singapore, I personally feel very lucky already. Except that it has TONS of FINES for offences...HAHAHAHA.... now that to me is really annoying.

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

sorry a little OT, i think whats more annoying are cars/ taxis stopping at road sides to alight or pick up passengers. somtimes when the roads are only 2 lanes wide it causes one lane to come to a halt altogether. and when they try and filter over to the moving lane, it causes a jam altogether.

arent TP's suppose to monitor where taxi's stop along CBD area? they are only suppose to pick and alight passengers at designated stands no?

is a stupid rule to alight passenger at designated stands.. pay so much yet alight so far.. i think we just have to keep a distance from taxi.
e.g. a handicap old man trying alight at SATA chinatown (Kreta Ayer road), the taxi drop him at designated stands (oppsite Oriental Plaza) 50m away & the handicap has to walk up hill to the SATA!

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

i've got a problem with some of these narrow 2 lane roads, with huge dividers right in the middle.. and cars still stop on one lane, or buses just can't keep to their own.. and then it just becomes 1 very big lane with space only enough for motorcycles to pass through..

yellow boxes.. sometimes i end up creeping in a little, only because i'm not sure if the person behind can stop in time.. :(

but thats the entire point. both drivers and passengers should have the discipline to flag cabs from taxi stands. its not just an inconvenience issue, more importantly it induces cab drivers to do abrupt emergency breaking or filtering from extreme right to left just to beat another cab to the passenger. in the midst of all this endangering the safety of other road users.

we just have to have drop off points at more prominent locations. HK has been practising this for some time now without much issues.

Re: Do you find many drivers who stop in yellow box nowadays?

For me, in one evening - twice in a row at the same junction, coming out of Orchard Turn into a jammed Orchard Boulevard.

Spanning 2 red light cycles, all 3 lanes of cars from the minor road cannot turn right (on green), because there is a car smack in the middle of the yellow box.

In both instances, the driver is an Indian (likely a foreigner).

First one was a pickup truck, with an Indian worker/driver. We cars horned, but he looked askance on why he was horned at. Some of us even pointed to the yellow box, but he was like "huh?".

The second was a sedan car, man and woman both Indians. Hard to tell from the guy, but the lady's dressing tells me that she is likely not from here. Second time round, we cars horned (again), but they just stared at us. WTF!

ya lor.. anyway just be careful, taxi are damn reckless when come to picking passenger, esp. when passenger flag it last min. Taxi will slam brakes & cut thru lanes to pick them. Anyway the handicap man is one my client.

personally if the we reduce the number of cabs the issue of reckless driving will be reduced.

Why is this forum so racist?

I am an Indian (and a foreigner) and I can bet whatever you earn in a year that I am a much better driver than you. So rather than be judgemental and name "Indian", you can easily get away by saying a foreign worker or a foreigner.

In my opinion - and this is just my opinion - Singapore has the worst driving standards ANYWHERE in the developed world. And I dare you disprove it.

Nowhere else do people drive in the middle of two lanes and shout at you when you toot your horn asking them to stick to one lane. Nowhere else do people change lanes indiscriminately without signalling. And this is not just foreigners, but Locals as well. Taxi drivers are the worst, closely followed by buses and cars. Don't even get me started on road hogs and right hand lane hoggers on the highway.

As for the OP's comment - there is ABSOLUTELY no sense in landing up smack in the middle of a yellow box unless you are using it to turn. If you are going straight, and you are in the yellow box - you are wrong. There is hardly any avenue of making a mistake unless you are legally blind or mentally retarded - both cases you shouldn't be driving anyway.

There are racists everywhere man, from 1-100 years old from all walks of life. Just avoid them like plague. They obviously have not lived anywhere else but Singapore. Narrow minded thinking.

Sometimes living abroad reinforces the 'stereotyping', get in a NYC cab with an Indian driver, a Mexican driver, a Middle Eastern driver...and you will see what I mean.
