Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

So what kind of country is this that the police tell the public not to circurlate this news!! So we can;t circulate the news to help public awareness!!

SINGAPORE: The police are aware that postings are still being circulated online regarding young children being purportedly led away by strangers in public places.

In response to queries from MediaCorp News, the police said they are investigating these postings.

The police urge members of public to refrain from re-posting or further circulating these messages as this may cause unnecessary alarm.

Members of public are urged to call 999 immediately if they come across such encounters or spot someone behaving suspiciously.

Parents and caregivers of children should also take the following measures to prevent their children from becoming victims of crime:

-- ensure young children are accompanied at all times

-- do not leave children out of your sight

-- teach children not to follow strangers and

-- inform the school or childcare centre if you have arranged for another person to fetch your child home.

Childcare centres and pre-schools are advised to ensure that only the rightful parents or appointed guardians are allowed to come in contact with their children.

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Police is actually urging not to circulate how inefficient they are in reaching out to the public!

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

catch that bugger and the circulation will stop

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Could the police be stalking those bastards and do not want the public to alert the them? Anyway i say just storm their house and take them out without trial.

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Do you even know that what you're circulating is true? If not, is it responsible to circulate it? Like the fake news that went around recently about a NS boy getting shot in the face...

I think the anti-FT sentiments are getting stronger. That's why news like this, true or not, is getting a lot of attention. The government must realise that they have overdone the immigration policy and now facing the reality of a divided society.

kidnapping is rumour or real?
if real, it's good to alert public right? still see many mommies letting their children running around at mall while they window shopping!

Next moment telling ppl should take preventive measures to prevent their children from becoming victims of crime..:shakehea:

As a parent of young children myself, I think the point is that it shouldn't take rumors/reports of attempted kidnappings to get parents to be careful with their kids. While it's always been easy to be somewhat complacent in Singapore, the bottom-line is that one should never let your young kids roam around out of sight in public. So it's not inconsistent for the police to remind parents to be responsible for their kids, while at the same time stating that the reports of attempted kidnappings haven't been substantiated.

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Its a case of 'better to be safe than sorry', dun they always mention in crimewatch?

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Why can't d Police issue a clear cut statement on this? Either yes or no.

If yes, we can all request for additional childcare leave to protect our kids!

No.... Then we know it's rumours.

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

Even if this is a false alarm, there's no adverse effect on the public. The parents wll just keep a watchful eye on heir kids when they go out.

Contrast this with false reports of imported rice shortage, or deadly virus attack on MRT, etc, where collective public behaviour can cause overall social harm, then the police should come out and calm the public down.

This time, I think it's just automated SOP statement again.

BTW i heard undergrad students are organising a naked walk peace rally to protest against disallowing short skirts in school. pls spread.

Apparently this girl's not very well prepared.

Re: Don't circulate kidnap postings, police urge - Channel NewsAsia

It is necessary to remind every single one of us to not take safety for granted. Instead of blasting the police, I would rather say that they have been doing a rather good job. But please do not spread rumours if it is not true. This may be a show but it is so real... Please watch Contagion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contagion_(film)
