Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

I am planning to do my first roadtrip down to KL this Thursday.

My gf however has been getting a little bit nervous because many people have been telling her horror stories about police intimidation and car jackers etc. Her friends think that my e46 m3 (in phoenix yellow) is just asking for trouble.

Me on the other hand am pretty excited about opening it up on the highway. Obviously I dont want to look for trouble so plan to only make 1 pit stop in malacca (if needed) and then park the car off in the hotel when I get to KL until I head back to singapore on Sunday. No plans at all to stop in Johor as I hear that place is dangerous....

Any advice from you all out there on things I should be prepared for?

If you can go with at least one other friend, that may make it 'feel safer'. While the press and all the 'horror stories' are sometimes overhyped, it is also true that your M3 will be an eye turner. It already is here in Singapore! :)

In order for you not to get lost, you may wish to get a good GPS (recommend the Garmin nuvi). KL hotels are pretty safe so not too much of a problem if you leave your car there and not venture to the small lanes.

Have a safe trip and let us know how it goes. :)

Nothing to be worried about. I've driven to KL countless times and have never encountered any problem. You can go for toilet breaks at petrol kiosks and rest points along the NSH but just ensure one person remains in the car while the other unloads. Its not a big deal at all. Have fun!

Lol... when i still have my car,( recently crashed along North South highway ) which is the car in the avatar. I drove it up to KL every weekend. And i believe my car would attract more attention than your car... Because its a cabrio. No offense bro, when u are in KL... you will see plenty of "M3" driving around. Its perfectly safe in KL, but i dare not say in Johor. Till now, my canvas is still perfectly intact and no scratches on the car. Those stories are overly hype...

Just one sincere advise... Please Please drive safely on the highway. Because the road quality sucks as compared to Singapore. Especially in the rain... Visibility is reduced and and road friction becomes so sucky. And watch out for the pot holes which will make ur car skidd during raining...

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

when going to sing, im never stop in any of johor place .. Especially tuas..im never stop somemore press higher rpm.. since aloy of rumors there..

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

use the 2nd link. much nicer.

no point stopping at JB.

once u reach KL, i recommend Ritz Carlton hotel. Always park my car with the valet, very safe.

The prince or TM also park there regularly. He has a Bentley, car plate TM. Damn cool.

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

I parked at Crowne Plaza a few times (my current car and also a 735i) and nothing happened. Go for the good hotels and you should be safe.

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

go into m'sia every weekend for golf. the road trip should not be a problem.

just the cops. there will be a lot of speed traps along the way. not possible to spot as they hide in the lallang :lol2: and especially with CNY, they will be out in full force, knowing that there will be quite a lot of rich S'poreans driving up. just look out for them, and try to keep within the speed limit. tell them that you had your cruise control on as they will insist that you have gone faster than the speed limit (especially with your ride being so conspicuous).

if you intend to go faster than 110kmh, just have plenty of RM50 handy :)

the things you have to watch out for are the other motorists on the roads. lots of small bikes riding like they are doing F1GP, and quite a lot of drivers in kanchils and wiras thinking they are louis hamilton.

and pls don't leave your valuables in plain sight when you make a pit stop. have horror stories about windows being smashed. safer to have somebody jaga until you reach hotel and valet park it.

enjoy your road trip!

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

actually stopping at JB is not that bad lahh. can wash your car and pump your tank to full before heading back to singapore.

Re: Driving to KL in my m3 this CNY

I always pump at the last petrol station of the 2nd link... or if i need to stop by JB to get some pirated @#$%. Which is so much cheaper... and have them deliver over the causeway. I always park my car at Melia hotel, opposite times square. KL is a much safer place than JB.

I second it! Many Ferrari in KL too. :lol2:

Just got back from KL - no problems at all during the trip. Seems like all the gf's worries were for no reason.

The NSH was pretty fun driving down on thurs afternoon. Very little trafffic and no run-ins with any police. Coming back today there was few jams especially over the bridge just before singapore immigration....

Overall I didnt find the proton drivers to be that bad. It was more the singapore honda civic drivers who thought they were in training for the f1 gp...
