e39 help...

hi,

just wondering if you guys have a similar problem.

my E39 seems is driving well... not too bad. abt 12l/100km on highways. everything is ok.

However, whenever i come home/stop the car, there seems to be this sounds coming from the bottom of the car, like electric shock or spark sounds. its quite audible and it sounds like the car was leaking water (only its not). a bit hard to describe. like 'piak piak' sounds.... it'll gradually stop after 1/2 a min or so..

my question is... is this normal? i've been having this problem for about a year and i've ignored it. the car has gone for inspections and servicing but the sound is still there... gotta know soon as warranty is coming to an end soon.

thanks guys

It's normal. It is actually condensed water dripping onto some hot surfaces.

Like Gabey said, it is perfectly normal. Had a fright too when I first got my ride. Sounds like sparks making love in the undercarriage but dun worry abt it

Not only for E39s too...

Have it on my E46 as well and its more prevalent if i drive the car hard! ;)

My E39 when stop at traffic light, I can hear water running sound "sounds like a small water running in pipe" like dat...

Anyone knows if this is sign of dark things to come??

Wah bro, the e39 sound insulation supposed to be damn tua kong... how come u can still hear water running... could it be the usual air-con compressor thingey?

No worries same here, macham igniting fire crackers epecially if you gun & reason as per what Gab has mentioned. On a side note, you're doing 12l/100km, thats pretty healty. I presumed you're running on stock rims?

yup... stock rims. but thats mostly highway driving (80%) When I do almost solely highway, the consumption drops to about 11l/100km.

Wow, 11l/100km only in my dream for my car and the very best I can achieve is about 14l/100km on highway (SGP) and on town and highway driving more than 16l/100km. How do you drive? must be light footed.

T6 & AC BOy, what is your FC?

Wah lau eh, your car 2.5litre, running 18" and plenty of city-driving of course u can continue to dream lah.

My FC range from 14.4l/100km to 15.2l/100km depending on how much city/highway driving. On NS Highway, can hit almost 700km w/out prob.

But the reading from the car meter not accurate one. FC is actually worse than that coz if your use the reading and mathematically count backwards, alot of petrol unaccounted for.

I get between 13.8 to 14/100. If gun, goes up to 14.5. With the exhaust in place & in mind of dropping in a CAI, looking at how it'll affect consumption.

i gauge my fc by 'zeroing' my milage reader and at the next pump (which is the next day haha) i'll see how many litres i actually need. there's very little stops/idling between the 2. and no, i don't do it for the sake of finding out FC, it becos i pump whenever i send my gf back to jb. and a car coming out of msia must be FULL tank (thats my own rule haha)

My E39 is currently showing 13.5/100litres... Used to be showing 12.8/100 litres. Actually notice that the FC went up after installing Pulleys+Sparks+Filter... but not sure if that is the reason.

Currently running on 245/45/R17... seems like not much difference in FC between 17inch and 18inch hor.

What is the profiles of your 18inch wheels?

I dun know who u asking but McCoy running on 19" wif 245/35/19 tyres, Arsenal 62 running on 18" wif 245/40/18 tyres (Nick correct boh? or are u on 35 series?) and I running 18" staggered wif 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear.

ya, 245/40/18 all round but rims very heavy leh.

Staggered wheels ... wah must be very chio ! Silly question, does it improve handling a lot? I suppose pick-up seems a little sluggish. And reading the posts here, your FC seems highest.

I put on lighter Pilot Sports tyres compared to Bridgestone SO3s on my 17" previously. So I dun feel any weight increase. In fact my steering is much lighter. In terms of FC, I think Arsenal 62's more tuakong than mine.

Pick-up is only marginally more sluggish but the tradeoff is better grip (as opposed to handling which comes with lowered suspension I believe). I am no chiongster so sightly slower pickup is ok wif me.

Bottom-line, wanna look good, there is a price to pay in mod costs and higher FC.

Hi I am on 17inch too and used to run abt 12l/100km but after pulley/OBIT/KNN drop in, I am not averaging around 14.1/100km. Btw any of you have problems of the titan 2 trim showing a kinda rusted effect?

Weng,

Maybe u need to retune your OBIT. Depends on how u want it tuned, might help to bring done your FC.

On the titan II trim, u have seen my trim. Do we have the same trim? If yes, I have not experienced any rust. Also, I thot these pure titan stuff not supposed to rust. ;)
