E46 Remote not working! Any wisdom

E46 Immobiliser Remote Key has decided to not work anymore.
The Key itself works - to start the car.

The buttons to unlock/lock the doors are not working.
I believe the battery is a rechargeable one
Charges whenever it's in the key slot.

Anyone had this experience before?
Any idea what's a cheap painless way to fix it.

Thanks... in advance!

:)

Hi niteblu,

i suspect is the module for the remote for locking and unlocking is giving way....i had the same problem for my last ride but only driver side door.....you wanna give Mike (Sin Wee Chuan) a call i think he maybe able to help you on this...i don't think is the battery....my other ride is funny can do locking and unlocking but cannot start the car so i went to ask Ah Wee (BVO) and found out it was the immobilser issue.........

Hope you can solve this soon....

Cheers...

thanks for the input bro.
will try to reinitialise it as per the thread above.
then if it doesnt work - see if i can summon enough balls to cut the fob up.

otherwise i'll give Mike (SWC) a call. Thanks.

my e60's remote cant unlock/lock the car from far distance, only when i'm right beside the car then i can unlock/lock it.. is this problem due to the batt of the remote?

Hi tatsit,

You may want to change the battery and try...if after change the battery still the same then that means is the module issue.....

Cheers

So where can I buy the battery from?
Any advises?

Just about any shop that sells batteries. I just popped down to a small photo development shop and get the batt. Common batt.

Re: E46 Remote not working! Any wisdom

I am wondering whether the battery is actually rechargeable.
i dont know too much about electrical, in order to charge there needs to be a +ve and a -ve.
the there is only one key sticking to the key hole, there is no -ver not +ve on the key.
so how does the key actaully charge? from the pictures that i see, the batt are just normal lithium disc batteries, similar to your calculator batteries. correct me if i am wrong..but the size is V2020.

Re: E46 Remote not working! Any wisdom

Yay i just did the batt replacement on my dead key !! Works like a charm whoo hoo !! Bought the battery from sim lim lvl 2 the battery shop at the back row close to the blue elevator, cost me $5 no soldering done to it. I simply used a needle nose pliers to peel off the spot welds.

The batt is a Lithium BR/CR2020.

Heres a link to the shop Battery.shop

Yes i know the link says 5th lvl but they have a shop on the 2nd lvl as well.

Easier to bring the key to the shop and you can ask them to resolder the batt onto the contacts. Dont forget to reprogram the key afterwards, hooray for the internet and many thanks for the DiY linky !!
