Am asking this outside of the long e60 singaporean thread on e60.net so others after me can search and find the answer.

How can i find out the CIP version on my car?

what does CIP stand for?

I understand after certain version, the stock cd player can read and play mp3 discs?

thanks

Re: e60 CIP version how to check?

Hi Bugaboo,

Will try to answer your questions:

Apparently it's not possible to tell what CIP version you currently have in your ride. Only the CSA can tell.

CIP I think stands for something like "Customization, Individualization Program" or "Customer Individualization Program"

CIP 16.2 and above will support MP3 playback if you have the BMW Professional Radio option and DON'T have Pro Navigation.
If you have the Business Navigation option, pro radio is included, and you can play MP3s.

If you have Pro Navigation, pro radio is also included, but it won't support MP3 playback until apparently Sept. 2005, when CIP 19.0 is released.

To find out if you have pro radio, with iDrive, select entertainment, then select FM, if you have an "all stations" option, (besides memorised stations, etc) that means you have pro radio.

BTW, it's not pro radio's er...radio that enables mp3 playback, rather it's because the pro radio option comes with a CD-ROM reader instead of CD player in the dash, and this allows the MASK software to read MP3 discs.
