E60 Decat Experience

Hi all, any E60 owners actually went to decat their rides? Aftermarket exhaust too costly for me, wonder anyone here can provide some advice here. I read that once the car is decatted check lights will appear, is it possible to get rid of it? And some people say that it can pass inspection while others say otherwise. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Cheers

Exhaust system

(e.g. exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, mufflers, etc.)

The exhaust system, which consists of the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter and muffler, is used as part of a vehicle's exhaust emission control system to ensure that the exhaust emission meets our environmental requirements. Any modification to the exhaust system would therefore require LTA's approval.

The following should be submitted to LTA for evaluation:

a) Certification from the product manufacturer stating that the proposed aftermarket exhaust system is suitable for the make and model of the vehicle.

b) Certifications or test reports from LTA/NEA recognised test laboratories to show that the aftermarket exhaust system when fitted to the vehicle on a per make and model basis complied with prevailing exhaust emission standards.

Note: Removing catalytic converters and mufflers are not allowed as it will adversely affect the exhaust emission characteristics of the vehicle.

Vehicle owners found modifying or tampering with the exhaust system may face a Court fine of up to $1,000 or 3 months' imprisonment upon conviction in Court.

Re: E60 Decat Experience

You planning to just knock the cats out leaving the original pipes or manifold there ?

Re: E60 Decat Experience

I say dun waste time....my jap ride experience had taught me, cat converter is a veri expensive part (easily in the thousands) and if u really wana decat, fabricate a straight through would be a much better choice (at least there is a choice for reversal in time to come if u want to). And after decat, the exhaust fumes are damn smelly, takes a no brainer to know tat ur ride has been 'fixed'. Ur rear bumper will have fume stain to show as well. There may be chaps whom may have passed the inspection but lets jus say they are beri lucky (or the inspection centre bo chap). If I may advise, save ur moolah for a solid approved aftermarket exoz is the path forward....peace out

Re: E60 Decat Experience

BMW cats is one the best in market, you will loose low end torque and have loud noise. I regret doing it previously ... lesson learnt.

Re: E60 Decat Experience

TS, what is your purpose on decatting ?
Want more sound - take out the wool in your muffler
Want more HIGH END power - tune the engine and MAYBE DECAT

Re: E60 Decat Experience

Hi jason i just want my exhaust to be louder. Because i have a buddy who's driving a Mk6 GTi, he actually de catted the car and it sounds really sick at high RPMs. According to him inspection will pass.( Not sure true a not)

Re: E60 Decat Experience

Hi just wanna know how loud is the noise?? Cause I'm not so concerned about the torque and power loss...

then you can go operate on ur muffler also ...
after all the ops also can pass the inspection ...

and you are welcome ...

Ok, i get you.
But the effect of this operation may be different on different car.
Anyway, if you dun mind lossing some low end power then .... as AC323 said , go with your heart
