Hi,

Need advise on how to check the engine temperature....played around with the OBC, but dun seem to find any temp other than the outide temp on the dashboard.....

Re: E60 temperature

i dun think its something u can see on the on board computer. some rides like the coupe comes with a analog temp reader on the speedometer, where ur fuel eficiency meter ison sedans but thats about it

Re: E60 temperature

The e60 doesn't come with it and u can't only m5 has it ( in replacement of the consumption meter on bottom right below the speedo).. Only e63 have..

No analogue no obc.. Both can't see.. It doesn't matter anyway it won't overheat and even it does the obc will tell you

Re: E60 temperature

FYI, water temp during driving around 100 deg.

Re: E60 temperature

Guys, I think you will need to know the water temperature as I just gotten my kicks last 2 days ago. I was driving down slope from Genting slowly and suddenly........ the warning light came up stating engine overheating! drive with moderation. 5 mins later, the engine overheated warning light came up and I had to stop the car. Gotten a tow truck and tow it all the way to the workshop and stayed in the workshop for 1 full day. Water pump leak therefore must change, hose changed and temperature sensor changed.
I don't think its the money that matters here, but the hassle of repairing it and the time spent is not justifiable. Most importantly it spoils your mood.............

Re: E60 temperature

There is, its in the dial on the rev meter. There are about 8 white lines and will decrease to 4 during optimal water temperature. It should appear between the 6 -6.5 above the red color rev limiter.

That one is more to oil temp I think not water temp

It works like the old e46 m3 lighted dials tell u when u got optimal engine temp..

Re: E60 temperature

really? oh dear.. I read from e60 forum that that is water temp. sorry if its really oil temp. but its not documented as well. Thanks terry!

Re: E60 temperature

even in 6er.. 335.. M5..

The meter in replacement of the fuel efficiency meter is oil temp not water temp..

Put delfi meter water temp lor..hahaha

Anyway before long drives its best to check for leaks.. Especially coolant / water .. I know of quite a few coolant leaks in e60s.. My water pump also chui before.. Thermostat also chui before...

But all claim warranty..

yup, but its pretty close to the water temp. typically water temp is about 4 to 5 degrees lower den oil temp. i guess it serves a s a close approximation.

only other way is use performance steering wheel. it shows both oil and water temp. but too bad 5 series doenst have performance wheel

Hi, went to check my E60...Indeed, there are markings above the red rev limited, however, it seems to be permanent 3 line markings whether engine is on or off....Any advise?

Re: E60 temperature

Its not permanent, it will come up to 8 or so lines when you start it cold in the morning. After driving for a while, it will drop to 3 bars or so.

You want to check again when the engine's cold in the morning?

Re: E60 temperature

guess BMW engineers hear yr plight :argue:

new F10 will hv the water temp

Re: E60 temperature

yep.... first thing in the mowrning when engine cold.... there will be more lines.. as the engine reaches its optimal driving temperature... it will go down to 3 lines...

before it goes down to 3 lines... dont drive ur car hard... means ur engine havent warm up enuff

in sg climate warmed up quite fast by 10-15min done liao the gauge are quite useless...in those snowing climate is when it is very useful

Re: E60 temperature

Went to check the indicators beside the tact rev red before I start the engine in the morning, and there are 3lines above the red marking....took a closer look and I can see one more line hidden below the red rev marking, so I am convinced that this should be moving up and down. However, need the experts advise on:

1. When I start the engine and leave it on for 5mins, the white lines still stay at 3 above the red marking :(
2. After driving to my office and parked, the white lines still stay at 3 above the red marking :( :(
3. After work, before I start the engine, the white lines still stay at 3 above the red marking :( :( :(

is there something wrong? thanks....

Re: E60 temperature

last time when i start the car in the morning... i think theres at least 6 or 8 lines above the red marking..
