e89 Park Brake Fault

Hi Bros,

Recently encountering an issue with my 2009 e89 and would appreciate any comments/suggestions/experience sharing.

It started with the Park Brake amber warning light coming up one evening right after I start the car. At that stage, the park brake seems to malfunction altogether and I was unable to engage or disengage the EMF, but all other driving functionalities appear normal. Error message says "Parking brake fault. No brake function when car stationary. Emergency function still possible. Have the system checked by the nearest BMW Service"

The next morning however, the EMF park brake appears to work normally and I was able to engage and disengage. Cruise control however, is no longer working and cannot be engaged. In addition, the same warning light remains on. Had it brought to a workshop for diagnostics and the error then seems to be saying something different. "6017 Wheel speed sensor DFA_EMF" with "SAE diagnostic trouble code P280E".

Up to this stage unfortunately, we can't seem to identify exactly where the problem is and which parts are faulty and requires replacement. Any bros out there can please help shed some light?

A little stuck here unfortunately since I bought my car used and it came with the dreaded TWM warranty scheme.

Many thanks in advance for anything that may be of help!

If your car from PML, send it back. If not, can try going to the sponsor workshop that you can find at this forum.

I have this same issue now in my 2009 E89 - did it wind up being the wheel speed sensor?

Hi. Yes, there's the entire control module (unfortunately I cannot remember the name if the module) which had to be replaced. But another forumer seems to be able to resolve the problem by recoding and upgrading the software. You might want to try that as well? Good luck!

Just got mine back. Software upgrade and reprogram fixed it. Mechanic tried just a reprogram with no success. All sensors were working normally otherwise.
