E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Hi Guys,

Need suggestion for start problem which I felt is not related to the engine.

Had to hit the start button a few times in the morning for last 3 days, feels like the Brake system did not really register the key, only radio and electrics come on , BUT, the Brakes Do Not Feel Activated (No Brake Feel).

Tried removing and re-inserting the keys but didn't work.
Some how after a few tries the Brake Feel comes on and the engine starts without any problems. No problem whatsoever with subsequent starts for the rest of the day.

Have anyone had this before ?? Besides bringing Car in, any suggestions ??

Besides that, The Car is Great !

Much Thanks !!!:)

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Just monitor first I guess, from reading the posts by some forumers, I think it isn't advisable to bring cars into PML unnecessarily.

Cos most people say things get worse after sending it to PML....

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

i had no such problems but it makes sense cos the engine does not ignite unless u step the brakes. Since I have legs like Roberto Carlos, I dont have issues. Maybe u didnt apply sufficient pressure on brakes, check your seat if u are sitting too far back [ legs stretched ].

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

My ride is about 8 months and i've not experienced such a problem before. Suggest you take it back to PML if the problem persists for the next wk or so.

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Had been brooding over it the last few days and decided to try something this morning.

Guess what, I release the Parking Brake first to release the "Pent Up" pressure, and the car Starts Normally. Not Sure if this is a one time thing, will try again after my business trip.

I suspect it could be related to the common movement after stopping (gear set to Park position, then set Park Brake), I could have step the brake too hard and set the park brake resulting in quite a lot of residual pressure. Not sure if this make sense anyway.

Will update all if problem recurrs.

Thanks Very Much.
Cheers !!!

Leak somewhere along the "Brake Booster", could be the vacuum lines running to the brake booster or maybe the entire unit itself.

E90 Start OK / Wiper Scrubbing Noise

Hi Guys,

Got back from my trip few days back, and would like to "report" that the starting problem had been resolved. Like AhBengDriver suspected, I am too gentle on the brake for morning starts.

So, just "squeeze" them a bit "harder" and the engine lights up. Finding more and more "Character" in my car , ha ha !!!

I am also having this wiper "Scrubbing" noise from the sweeping on the windshield.
No sound for the first few sweeps when the windshield is not that wet, as it gets more rain, the sweep gets louder with a kind of scrubbing sound.
Cannot understand why, could it be my Paint Protection Sealant stuff got onto the windscreen or what ?? I find it rather irritating when I leave it on Auto Wiper that I become the Auto Wiper !!!
I must say I have this phenomenon before on other rides.

Will PML replace my very new blades just for noise alone, or how can I get it away??

Thanks !!!

Hi,

The wiper problem is very irritating. I just experienced it on the way home. On top of that, my wiper movement/motor seems rather noisy. PML will change yr wiper blades 4 u (as yr car still very new) & polish the windscreen but the noise will come back.

regards,
jooggie

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

I have the same wiper problem too. As you said, even replacing the blade the noise will still
come back. Hmm... seems like this is a standard problem all of us are facing. So what is the actual cause ??

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

I have sent the 9 month old e90 back to PML several times. One of the problem is the noisy wipers. The windscreen was polished or scrubed several times and the baldes were replaced. But the problem never go away. The sales person and the service advisor gave me different cleaning solutions, silicon removers but still the wiper is way below acceptable level. Even a proton saga taxi in KL have quieter wipers than our 'luxury' car.

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

My friend's 4 month old E90 320i had the same 'no brake feel' starting problem. Had to call in the PML emergency service. Advised that have to step on the brake VERY hard before cranking the engine. So far no more recurrence but since it now seems that it is not an isolated case, I believe that there is an inherent fault somewhere.

As for the noisy scrubbing wiper problem, I think it is another BMW trait. Even the 7er is not spared and nothing I did can eradicate this irritating problem.

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

wrt wiper blade scrubbing sound, i confirm that on my 7er too. it is also very obvious on my old lexus too. i thought it may be related to the rainx i used.

not sure if this help, but i manage to keep the sound away by cleaning the rubber on the wiper with tiny amt of concentrated car shampoo after every regular carwash.

Come tell us honestly, for how long more can you live with this car of yours and all these frustrating problems? :uhhh: The truth is out there.

That's what warranty comes with the ride is for, cos they recognised there's could hv some issues.. not jus BMW but any other makes as well.

perhaps u wanna enlighten us on any car in the market tat deem to be perfect and doesnt come wit warranty or minor issues?

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Hey bro,

You got your car around the same time as mine. I had to bring my car last month to change the whole compressor. Apparently PML said that my car is the first to complain of such problem. I heard from one brudder that his 323 is blowing white fumes! PML was great in fixing my problem thereafter. Its been great so far.

About your wiper noise, I was about to bring it in for my car next week. I actually thought that maybe PML can look into changing my wiper rubber blades. Apparenlty, in my case there is too much pressure applied on the windscreen by the blades such that you actually see "skid marks" where the wiper stops after the rain.:whythis:

Besides these minor problems, I am really enjoying my ride and having fun driving everyday. Never regretted buying the Bimmer for sure! :)

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

vanilla707 - got my wiper blades replaced and windscreen 'polished' (not with wax) a couple of times by PML. Never use rain-X on my ride before. PML adjusted the pressure or tension but I still see skid marks. The sound would not go away despite all the effort and many visits to PML. I don't know what else to with the noise, which is more irritating than a 10 year proton saga wiper. Everytime it rains, my blood pressure goes up. Do share if PML amnage to solve your problem.

Like yourself, I enjoy my ride tremendously. Only wish that BMW make ultimate driving and reliable machines.

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Hi,

I'm also getting a 2nd change of wipers for my E90 320i tomorrow. The noise is irritating. On top of that, my car doesnt seemt recognise my car keys occasionally and the immobiliser gets engaged. My CSA says she'll get the keys reprogrammed. Will update later on the progress.

Other than that, no other major issues. I'm just enjoying the ride and waiting for the RF tires to wear out before deciding on getting bigger rims and more comfortable tires.

thanks,
jooggie

Re: E90 Start Problem / Brake Related

Hi There

My E90 is 2 months old and has same starter problem. Sometines it starts ok. Other times I need to re-insert the key several times before the brakes release and the car starts.

I was going to send it down to PML tomorrow for a check-up but worry about previous comment that they may worsen the problem.

From the above discussion it seems the solution is the depress the brakes harder??? I'll try that first. Pls let me have your view as this is not an isolated problem.

Incidentally how many of the brothers here voted PAP????

thks
