Eisenmann Race Mufflers - e64 650i SMG - My Experience

Alrighty, time for my review after having Eisenmann race mufflers on my e64 650i smg cabriolet for a good ... errmmm ... 1.5 months?

Mod virus was injected by Evil Grandmaster ala Bimmermod OKT aka Wilman aka Wilson. It all started in September last year where I first met up face-to-face (previously was only buttcheek-to-buttcheek so not counted) with the Grandmaster. Was studying with him a crazy idea of mine which I'll cover later.

My e64, bought brand new from PML in July 06 dressed in full ACS outfit, 21" type IV racing 2-pc alloys and AC springs, was due for more juice. I love the way all the ACS bits held together on the 6er, from the front bumper to the sideskirts, to the rear spoiler and most importantly, the exhaust tips. I didn't want to change any of that.

The exhaust note from the ACS mufflers were OK. It blipped sensationally, good bassy note, sexy V8 burble, no droning but I've always felt some degree of hesitation, some sort of delayed response from the moment I hit the throttle to the moment the fumes blow out through the rear pipes. It felt kinda like the mufflers were slighty choked. This was undesireable by my standards.

Did some research on the net, compared between Britalmann, Eisenmann, RDSport, Hamann, Supersprint, Magnaflow and etc. but was blown away by the construction marvel and exhaust note of the Eisenmann muffler. A big downer was how typical my e64 would look with quad pipes. I didn't want to look like a try-hard wannabe M6er, afterall, I didn't get my e64 cheap so no point degrading myself.

So here came the crazy idea. What if I removed my ACS mufflers, surgically separate the tips and have them joined onto an Eisenmann race muffler? Would that work? Would there by clearance problems? Would it align nicely in the arches of my AC rear bumper spoiler? Would it stick out too far due to the difference in size of the muffler bodies? Notice none of my concerns were about whether it's gonna be LTA compliant? :screwedu:

Tons of questions, no answers. Grandmaster took a look at my undercarriage....and then the undercarriage of my e64, and shook his head at the latter (phew! :cloud9: ). He had a worried look on his face. He wasn't sure if the Eisenmann tips would align nicely with the arches on the bumper, and I might possibly have to cut the bumper...which would really suck. We decided at the end of a long tussle that it wasn't a good idea. I should just stick to doing up the mid pipes and have the case closed. He made it clear that there were too many risks and unknowns and he didn't want me to end up buying something I can't use. Needless to say, I was a sad sad boy for the next couple of days.

Then it struck me one day. WTF? :furious: Life's too friggin short. I rang Grandmaster and told him to order a set of Eisenmann Race mufflers in for me. The rest of the next couple of months, you guys know the story. Ding dong here and there. Grandmaster not at fault, in fact he was buying ringing up checking on status of the delivery and all. End up, he got the e-race from Barry for me. Good guy.

Then the fateful day came. For the record, I was 20 mins late meeting the Grandmaster at Mans Exhaust. Needless to say, I paid for his meal and drinks that day. Grandmaster briefed the mechanics. They shook their heads in disbelief and satyed at me like I'm some kinda retarded rich punk with no friggin sense at all. I stood there watching helplessly as they jacked my e64 up on the hoist. Grandmaster pulled me away and walked me to the nearby coffee shop. He told me it was better if I didn't see what was going to happen next.

We had something to eat, and drink, and we drove to J4C nearby to see DV's 335i put on a new intercooler and downpipe. Then we drove to BHP. That took my mind off the work at hand but I started to wonder WTF is Grandmaster up to....

We eventually got back to Mans at around 3pm. The e64 was still on the hoist. The ACS tips were still on the muffler. I couldn't believe my frigging eyes. Grandmaster was dumbfounded as well. WTF? 5 hours and nothing done????? We rushed over to the car only to see...hmmm....MY GOD!!!! The ACS tips have already been welded onto the Eisenmann race mufflers!! We were over the moon. The mechanic even sprayed the rear end of the muffler black so that it looked exactly like the original ACS muffler. Dang! Thats what I called ingenuity!

Mannn....I'm tired typing this. I need a break.

BRB.

Re: Eisenmann Race Mufflers - e64 650i SMG - My Experience

The next couple of hours flew by quickly. The mid pipes were done up in RDsport cross-design style. What a work of art.

At 5pm sharp, I fired up the beast but was shattered as the roar was not as symphonic as it sounded in the audioclips on Eisenmann's website. At idle, it was absolutely silent. Bear in mind I'm STILL running stock headers, stock cats, and resonators intact. I drove the 6er out of the workshop into the open carpark and gave it a few hard revs. OK, the beast roared once the needle sweeps past 3k rpm. The exhaust note was RAW and made the ACS exhaust note sound mild-mannered and uninteresting. It wasn't annoying kind of loud that you'd expect from ricers with a 4" straight through exhaust pipe. There was absolutely no droning. What I got was an F1-like roar. This is GOOOOOD!

I drove off a happy boy. :cloud9: Immediately the throttle response was way better. The hesitation that once scarred the ACS exhaust was gone! The choke was gone! It's all good. No droning when cruising even at speeds over 120kph. At idle, it sounded almost stock. In fact, quieter than the ACS mufflers. Grandmaster told me it'd get louder as time passes. :yummie:

1.5 months passed. Cold starts in the mornings are to die for. Unfortunately I can only indulge in 2 cold starts- one in the morning, and the other when I leave work at 7pm. It's like a huge gush of win blew straight through the tail pipes with that signature F1 roar....then immediately it resumed with its silent idle. I loved how it's true character only reveals itself over 3K rpm...even drove by TPs without them taking a second look at me  . Grandmaster left enough venom in me and this time I wanted more! No more mild-mannered 6er at idle! I want a free revving beasty sounding V8. Off with the resonators. :screwedu:

So back to Mans Exhaust this time. I cruised in at 9am sharp. Doors weren't even open. First car at the door, reserved first spot for myself. Grandmaster was late this time. Waited till 9:20am before I rang him...seconds later, the immaculate Great White waltzed into the carpark. Out came the gorgeous Grandmaster....opps...OT :cloud9:

The e64 was hoisted up again. Resonators removed and replaced with twin straight thru pipes. Job was done in 2hours. Damage $80 :yikess: Cheap cheap indulgence, cost me less than a bottle of decent bubbly at Novus. Reversed the e64 out to the carpark, put to neutral and revved it a couple of times. OMG! My jaw almost dropped. It sounded tons more RAW! So RAW, AVA will never approve for consumption! Now I have absolutely no disguise coz the exhaust note is distinctive even at low rpms. BUT....still it idles nicely with a slight humming noise (generated by Grandmaster) which is still very decent.

In conclusion, DO IT if you have an V8 powered Bimmer. It is definitely a worthwhile modification and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. It took a long time and I'm almost where I want the exhaust system to be, STILL most importantly I'm a happy happy boy. KUDOS :yummie: to Grandmaster aka Wilman aka Wilson for the assistance rendered and company which I will hold dearly in my hear...OMG did I say that out loud?

Now on with the pictures Grandmaster. Flood the forum!!!!! :laughlik:

Re: Eisenmann Race Mufflers - e64 650i SMG - My Experience

Wil

OT - certain Eisenmann sports exhausts have TUV homologation approvals...eg for VW GTI......will LTA accept/approve them or are you working towards that ? Thanks

Re: Eisenmann Race Mufflers - e64 650i SMG - My Experience

Ok, here I am!!

I'll try not to type so much so that certain PPL won't fall asleep.......yawn.........

Our macho bro ACS6 ala ACS Whore aka Malvin contacted me & asked me wat can he do to improve his Monster ACS 650cic....

He told me wat he had on his car & I was like 'WOW'......oready modded leh.....but ofcourse Mod Whore like me can always cook up more poison to inject......:lol2:

So, flew in the Brembo GT BBK & GruppeM CAI for him (1st 2 poison)

Brembo GT Front 8pot monoblock & rear 4pot (21" ACS Type4 Racing rims......slurp)

GuppeM

These 2 mods are fabulous for bro ACS6 but he wanted more more more.......

So he told me that he wanted Eisenmann Race exhaust but he wanted to have his ACS exhaust tips welded back on......I was like 'WAT'?

Cut away the beautiful Eisen tips were such a waste u know......but bcos of his full ACS kit....the quad tips of the E-Race were really too dam small dwelling in the rear lower ACS kit.....

With his approval, we went ahead to do this project!! Met up with him at Man's Exhaust & spoke to my long time buddy MAN himself......

MAN also think we're crazy but I trust that the Wizard on exhaust modification him can do the job siu siu.....

Here are the pictures of the 1st visit to Man's Exhaust.........

Original ACS exhaust system on ACS6's 650cic

See how nicely the ACS exhaust tip sit into the ACS rear lower spoiler kit......

Out with the ACS exhaust......

Open up the box of the E-Race & wala!! Siu siu!!

Stock center mid-pipes.....

The cutting begins......removing the rear resonator.....

http://javascript:void(0);
Leaving the Center resonator intact..........

http://javascript:void(0);

Tat's it.....drag ACS6 out of Man's plc so that he won't feel so heart pain when all this cutting, chopping up is going on.....easier on the guys when they work too....

We went makan.....thanks for breakfast/lunch & kopi bro!!!

When we went back in the afternoon, from far, we saw the ACS tips were still there.....WTF....why did they put back the ACS exhaust??? Something gone very wrong or MAN gave up on us????

Went forward to realise that it's oready transplanted onto the E-RACE!!!

He is truly a Exhaust mod Wizard!!!

DSC_0068.jpg

The magical 'X' cross-pipes that replace the rear resonator!!!

So this was done! Fantastic Job by the boys & both ACS6 & myself were amazed how well the finished project was!!!

Kudos to MAN's effort!!

ACS6 then drive home a happy boy.......kekekekeke

End of part 1....................................

I tot I was LOG SOH Bro...you worse than me. Tell the whole story all over again from different perspective. Terry fall asleep liaoz. Terry naughty boy, student somemore, don't like to read text. Terry's a visual person, use eyes and hands and squeeze squeeze only. If have to read, he run far far. LOL.

Will post sound clip. Anyone can advise how I can cut up an amr extension file? Don't want the redundant portions at the front and back.

Re: Eisenmann Race Mufflers - e64 650i SMG - My Experience

Part 2 begins.........

After 1.5mths.....macho ACS6 ala ACS Whore aka Malvin decided he wants more more more......

So I suggest to him to remove the center resonator to extract more Vroom from the E-Race set-up......

We met up yesterday at Man's mod house again......here are the last few pics........

Cut out the center resonator & weld 2 straight pipes on............

http://javascript:void(0);

Again beautifully done.....thanks to the boys there!!!

The rest of the story is wat bro ACS6 had posted above......orgasmic F1-roar.......steam!!!!!!

Thanks for the makan & drinks bro!! It's also a pleasure to work on this crazy project of yours!

Cheers
