Man gets two weeks for stealing emblems from cars

A man who stole his neighbours' car emblems with a friend was sentenced to two weeks' jail on Wednesday.
Timothy Cheong Zhan Yuan, 25, pleaded guilty to five charges of mischief, four of which were committed at the basement carpark of his condominium at Tanamera Crest off Upper Changi Road. The other occurred at the carpark of Grand Park Orchard Hotel.
In total both he and his accomplice, Jamie Koh Guan Hoe, 38, committed 15 counts of mischief in December last year, causing wrongful loss of $1,306,
Koh, a part-time air conditioner technician, has made full restitution of the amount. He pleaded guilty in September and had since completed his two weeks' imprisonment term.
A Community Court heard that Koh visited Cheong at the condominium at around midnight on Dec 12 last year.
The duo decided to go to club Nana in River Valley at about 3am. While driving, Cheong decided to drive his Mini Cooper around at the basement carpark, targeting vehicle makes such as BMWs and Audi.
He told Koh he was interested in some of the motorcar emblems.
Shortly later, he stopped by a black BMW and handed a Swiss army knife to Koh.
After checking that there was no in-car recorder, Cheong signalled to Koh who used the knife to prise open the front and rear emblems while Cheong acted as a look-out.
In the next hour, the pair stole emblems from another BMW, a Mini Cooper and an Audi car as well as the Mini Cooper's two wheel caps. They did not know that their act was captured by the Audi's in-car recorder.
Two days later, both men were about to drive out of the carpark of Grand Park Orchard Hotel when Cheong saw a BMW 325 coupe near the gantry. He drove his car to block the hotel's CCTV camera facing the BMW, handed over the knife to Koh who removed the emblems of the BMW with the knife. Cheong's car was later captured by the hotel's security cameras.
Both men were arrested on Dec 18. None of the emblems was recovered.
Cheong will allowed to commence sentence on Jan 8.
