Engine Overheated! HELP!

Went out for dinner as per normal but after going back to car, idrive showed engine overheated. Managed to drive back home but after opening bonnet, there were signs of liquid at the radiator reservoir area.
Could it be radiator leak? radiator burst? or what other possible reasons?
Need some advice and pre-empt myself for anything before sending to workshop tomorrow.
Thanks!

That is a sign that your water line has leaks probably from a pressure build up in your coolant reservoir, a result from either water pump 'up e lorry' or blockage.

Disclaimer: The above is from past experiences as a driver and also it could be other reasons like the fan not working therefore causing pressure build-up thus bursting the water line.

It is normal. Wait till u see geyser in engine bay.

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

Car still at workshop checking. After topping up my coolant, all seems back to normal again, which is good but makes me feel uneasy
Gotta continue checking again

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

if ur car is in danger of overheating, you shouldn't even be a hero and drive it anymore, Its like having a heart attack and then still continue to run.

Once overheated or temperature gauge hits the roof, stop by the side and call for tow truck liao...

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

Confirmed radiator up lorry
There goes my exhaust! But at least a new one will keep me safe

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

Today same warning light came out even after a new radiator!
What could be next? Water pump? Thermostat??
Yesterday night drive as normal. Today whole day also drive as normal. Warning only come on at night.
Due to??

Radiator cap also play an important part from past experience. if the valve fail to regulate the water overflow to reservoir then over heating also possible and it does not have to be a hot day.

the weather lately are scorchers and getting it properly resolved is peace of mind.

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

did your mechanic check the fault code to see if water pump is faulty?
there could be 3 possibilities, hose leak, radiator leak, water pump weak or thermostat fault.
if your mechanic is good, he should be able to pinpoint the exact cause.
i changed my water pump last month.

Which workshop did u go to? Sounds like they never do a proper diagnosis. Suspect water pump and/or thermostat malfunction. Maybe even a crack in water reservoir container.

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

your mechanic must have forgotten to switch on the air-con heater to bleed further.
time to change mechanic?

i think so...
am gg to make appointment to BVO or BOSS instead
my car overheated tonight again!
This time i monitored

After I poured in water, the level rose, then fell (normal thermostat operating)
Then suddenly the water level rose and rose then overflowed out!

I guess my thermostat should be dead.
Are there 2 thermostats in the e60?
I can just change the thermostat only right?

Re: Engine Overheated! HELP!

It's hard for me to tell... I suggest you pay a visit to one of the 2 mentioned.
Can be water pump. Hook up obd2 will tell.
