A FORMER drama teacher has admitted having sex with a student aged 14 after she confided in him about home and school problems.
Aravind S. Menon, 25, even filmed one of their trysts on his cellphone and downloaded it to his computer - then threatened to kill himself when she broke up with him.
He was working twice a week voluntarily for the school, which cannot be named for legal reasons, when the girl joined its drama society in March 2008.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Khoo said she went to Menon, then aged 20, with her problems and they grew close.
They had sex at his home in Choa Chu Kang in May 2009 and on two other occasions soon after.
In July, her parents read his messages on her cellphone and told her to break up with him.
Her father also informed the school of his suspicions and Menon was sacked.
In August 2009, she texted him that she wanted to end the relationship and he threatened to harm her family.
When he found out that she intended to make a police report, he sent her a message saying he would commit suicide.
Defence counsel Selva K. Naidu said that Menon went to the 10th floor of a block of flats planning to jump but he could not remember anything else. The court heard that police arrested him in the fourth-floor corridor.
Menon, who is single and now a freelance writer, pleaded guilty to sleeping with a female below 16 years of age. The court ordered that her identity should not be revealed.
He will be sentenced at a district court on April 25.
He could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined up to $10,000
