F10 6th Gen 520i - motor oil change for lightly driven car

Need advice - my last motor oil change by PM last Oct - since then have only driven 4000+km - nowhere to go under SMM - when should I be changing motor oil next? Some US sites suggest at least 5000mls (8000km) - but conditions here v different, leh. Any advice, friends?

Follow what your idrive says. Its now a usage based system i.e if you drive your car hard it'll tell you to change earlier.

Thanks, rssid - good point on following idrive - takes the guesswork out of the equation - it's silent on this so far.

one year only 4K, that’s very little. But I won’t be very comfortable if the oil is more than one year old.

You're right, Bentanlh70 - even PM mechanic was concerned w my low mileage - ask me to drive more! Any recommendation on Bimmer specialist to go do this?

Any workshop can change oil don't need a BMW specialists. Site sponsors are a good place to start call around and check. I've seen just plain oil changes range from $75 to a whopping $248. Know what you need and don't get over sold on services that are not necessary.

What's the difference between the $75 one vs the $248 one ? Oil brand ?

The $75 is just oil change nothing fancy, they used Castrol 5w30 ( I chose this) the Titanium FST version. They don't check anything else unless you ask them.

To be fair $75 was for only 4L of oil I have 1L left over as I used to bulk buy for my audi. Oil filter I just bought from Eng Soon was like $10+ Mann OEM filter which is plenty good.

I don't feel the need to buy expensive oil just change the oil more frequently every 8000-10000kms fully synthetic. Oil is cheap engines are expensive as scotty kilmer would say.
