F10 DIY Maintenance: Washer Fluid Top-up

Hello fellow F10 5ers

Just sharing some basic DIY maintenance information that I hope will be helpful for those of you who don't mind getting your hands a little dirty to ensure the quality of care for our Bimmers.

Today, it's a very simple and straightforward DIY on how to replenish your F10's washer fluid. It may seem simple ("just put water inside lor") but we have to take note that just putting water is not enough.

Washer fluids usually need some cleaning agents (eg isopropyl alcohol) to clean your windscreen, and the same reservoir is used to spray our headlamps as well. Hence it is important to use the right fluids to ensure that we take care of the windscreen and the headlamps.

First, when the reservoir runs low on washer fluid, your F10 display the error as shown.

You can also check for details on the error using your iDrive.

Get a bottle of concentrated washer fluid from any supermarket, petrol kiosk or car accessories retailer. I am using the 50ml LiquiMoly Washer Fluid Concentrate (made in Germany) that I bought from Autobacs for S$5.95.

Note that if you are getting a 1:100 concentrate (like I have), you will only need 50ml as our F10 washer fluid reservoirs are about 5 litres.

Pop open your bonnet and open the washer fluid reservoir cover.

Empty the entire 50ml bottle into the reservoir FIRST, and then top it off with water until it reaches the brim of the spout - which should be about 4-5 litres of tap water. You can use distilled water if you like.

I like to use a funnel so as to avoid spilling water everywhere.

Once done, the error code will automatically be cleared from your iDrive.

This is an issue which I did not fix.
But it should not be drying up. At least I have not top up this tank for my g30.

Well, if it does dry up then you know that the reservoir is leaking. In the long run - is this going to be an issue? Maybe not. So entirely up to you if you want to replace the reservoir.

Having said that, now you know what to do and how to top it up for your F10 if it happens - which maybe similar for your G30, I am not sure. :D
