F10 - Steering sounds

Hi all senior Bros and site-sponsors,

Recently have been getting some low-tone 'whirling' noise when turning the steering at low speeds - ie; turning up multi-storey carparks and/or stationary doing slow turn-ins (either forwards or backwards especially).

Read before somewhere - that the 'servo-electro' steering of the F10 - series may be the cause....but am unsure. Have a slight suspicion that it could be due to the numerous turning up and down tight multi-storey carparks that may be the main culprit.

Also, mostly, before reverse parking (usually will line car up, stop, engage reverse gear and then start to turn slowly reversing into a lot with intermittent braking to ease into lot - there will be some click sound from the front wheel area - again suspect, it could be due to the extra-stress on the steering and wheels.......

Anyone has similar issues? Appreciate some sharing of info from Bros with similar issues before and/or some diagnosis if possible.

Thanks!

Re: F10 - Steering sounds

drive slow in carpark ... turn your steering left (very quick) then turn your steering right (very quick) ... like a mad man driving
if got sound ... ngeet ngeet ... i have the same issue
what pml did was "tighten and lubricate steering joints"

is your car lowered or on oem suspension?
pml will blame that lowering suspension will put "additional" stress on the steering rack/joint causing ngeet ngeet sound while turning

Re: F10 - Steering sounds

Hi bro wt_know,

Yup...the sound is as u better described - its some electro - 'ngeet ngeet' like a soft motor churning of some sort.....

mine is very pronounced when turning up a multi-storey carpark ramp each time, as we all know, these turns are 90 degree with a incline somemore and also have to go slowly, thus, feel like its really straining the chassis, steering, control arms, etc, u name it...

I also did not lower the car and still on oem suspension and all. Other than I have a 21 inch wheels and bbk....that's all..but even prior to this at 20 inch with no bbk..already have heard it occurring aldy......

So u managed to resolve?

I searched forum - and wonder if Boss (Rigid Collar) can be useful in resolving this.....also, thinking of R2D's Arm Bushings that supposedly reduce movements....

Again, just trying to understand and hopefully zoom in closer...otherwise, can be frustrating doing a wild goose hunt. So though of sharing it here and seeking some advise and maybe similar experiences from the boys here and whether anyone had this resolved before....?

Thanks!

Re: F10 - Steering sounds

yes, my problem is solved by pml tighten and lubricate all steering joints. yes, the sound is prominent going up/down mscp. if your car is under warranty no harm to ask pml to do it. if no more warranty also can go outside workshop do it. the cost is very low instead of jump into conclusion servo problem.

Re: F10 - Steering sounds

sorry, one more question - is it a quick job or need to leave car overnight?

Thanks!

Re: F10 - Steering sounds

overnight for pml (standard)
outside workshop should collect car same day.
