F30: Wind noise updates

I just got my front window insulated, a 10mins job, simple measure and trace and stick along with a made-in-Japan insulation kit.

Will update u guys after my travel to Tuas, I will have 45km to know if the wind noise can be reduced if best, eliminated. I also brought along the remaining 4m kit for additional proofing in case some areas are compromised.

Watch out for the updates later, hopefully good news

Bro, you mean tape around front windscreen? Noise is coming from there and not juz front doors??

Hi Guys,

Got my 320i on Tuesday, road noise level is definitely higher than my previous ride
Merc C180 7G. Should we gather more F30 bros to stage a big protest at PML, especially
if Bro Tortoise manage to solve the issue by having additional seal.

Is the seal design for Singapore or Malaysia hot weather all year round ???? Our Malaysian
bro have similar complaint about road noise.

One way to make the complaint visible is annouce the wind noise issue at BMW official facebook page.

Bro your issue is general road noise or specific wind noises ? I've given up on road noises and conceded that sound insulation on F30 CMI so now just hoping PML can at least solve the wind noises coming thru driver and passenger front windows

I mean wind noise , sorry for not being specific. The malaysian bmw forum also specific wind noise above 90km/hr as their main grouse. No visible solution from AD auto Bavaria.

Yes sir, now waiting for them to call me , they ordered new seal kit for me so gonna give that a try, cos it seems some cars in the US did this and it worked. Do u knw if our Malaysian friends managed to get their problem with wind noises fixed?

sg market is too small
unless is usa or china, just look at previous bmw problem and how bmw ag bows to these 2 markets

The big issue is for China and US market per car profit is much lower if compare to Singapore.
e.g. F30 320I OMV =38,000 ; COE =90,500 ; Sales price = 218,800.

BMW AG gross profit per F30 320I ~ S$90,000 WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's 3-5x gross margin per car compare to US and China market. If BMW singapore buyer
continue to be a docile and non-complaining, they would not raise the service level.

38k x 2.3 + 90 (coe) = $177k (total cost)

simi $90k left for bmw? even yes spore sell 10k car china sell 1,000,000 car

already got f10 bro go pml bang table due to wind noise. do a search. solution is turn up your ice or invest in a nice exhaust. for quiet go for lexus next car. double confirmed quiet.

Hi , I do have the same wind noise problem when travelling around 90km and above . Can hear the sound coming from the front wind screen . When I sent in my car last week to PML due to my car is still under the 3 years warranty period and I told them the wind problem they don't even help me to solve my problem . I guess that is nothing they can do ...!! Well , hoping your Japan made insulation kit is a success and helping all of us to solve the wind problem ...!! Cheers .

Did the SP on the front side (notice I did half for trial).

Did a test and enclosed area in KPE is ok, ride is quieter but nt significant. The side doors SP and windows are prob the cause of road noise, there seemed to be a lack of SP in the tyre well as well.

Main side wind noise is caused around the side mirrors (near the tweeter area also). I'll be adding some more SP for the suspected area to try again. Update soon, meanwhile, this is a simple 10mins job! I've like 4m left so if anyone wanna try, let me know, I'm residing in Hougang Else we'll do a simple fast one during our GTGs (if any)

The rubber is pretty well made but very soft, thus closing of doors is no issue, but the closing sound is nicer now with a thud than a piak hahahhaa

U cant tape the front windshield which is secured by seals. U have to get the AD to have the seals changed and the noise will stop. My windshield had a bad crack and it was duly replaced by MA and the noise stopped!
