F30er - FEM module a recurring issue

Hi all. I did not see anyone post anything about this so I thought it is important to keep you aware and prepared.

I bought my 328i F30 last March. Some months later the wipers could not stop after flicking the ad-hoc swipe. I sent my car in and it took several attempts from PML to fix it after having the BMW engineer from Germany to resolve what is known as the FEM issue. This took many weeks.

Then again, in late Jul 2012 the problem started and was said to be resolved in late August. 10 days later, the boot could not open and some other strange reactions from the car... Then another 2 weeks for the German engineer to come and fix the FEM issue.

Sent my car recently in for service on the 1st Apr 2013. The FEM module could not be updated several timesave (so they said) Then After shipping in 3 FEM modules later... I got back my car today 16th Apr.

The experience has been very painful and somewhat upsetting. Some days back, my Aunt's F30 also caught the same bug.

So 8 FEM modules, 3 german engineer visits, more than 4-4.5mths lost of use in a year! Bugger,,, I got a lemon.

The FEM is a control unit which manages various functions of the car. BMW has been said to recall the 2012 production F30er for the FEM and coolest upgrade. A campaign so they say.

You can find out more from F30posts.

Good luck everyone.

Bro this discussed before Liao, since abt June last year. Common problem on F30 and 1 series irrc, change fem and reprogramme , that should solve the problem lor. New sw supposed to solve problem and not fry the fem anymore

Mine collected in Oct 2012... Nothing major so far except fc no good, squeaking sounds from door rubbing the pillars and some rust below the car seat. That's resolved using Singer oil to rub on the metal underneath the seat.

Re: F30er - FEM module a recurring issue

Singer oil does not really stop rust...in our climate, metal coated will singer oil will continue to rust after 1 week plus...Might want to try those "food grade" grease

in Malaysia, we get free seat pan replacement.

its a replacement but not paint to black. please insist your AD to do so for you.

A loud aftermarket exhaust with loud music would fix the problem.....
