Personally, I find it unnecessary, especially if you are going to change cars in 3-5 years. But hey, it's your money and your car. If you feel like doing it and can afford it, there's no problem.

According to PML, first servicing at 10K only. There's why though my mileage is 8K, I still drive like tortoise until the first servicing.:-(

Probably you can do an oil change.....................then do full service at 10000km

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Just found out from PML that the "Next Service" mielage when you switch on engine is only indicative. Should send for oil change at least every 10,000 kms. I told him that SA told me only need to service once warning light comes on. He was quite diplomatic about telling me that the SA doesn't know about this. So now at 13,000 kms, they're going to change oil. Anyway, I drove slowly for about 1,200 kms before I started unleashing the power of my 528i. That was about 6 months ago. Now there's a lot of white smoke when I accelerate hard, so I think I may have damaged something. Anyway it's with PML now and their trying to fix the problem. My advise is to change oil regularly. It prolongs the life of the engine, which will save you a lot of money in the long run, especially if it needs to go in for major works on the cylinders in the furture. To me, "Prevention is better than cure"

Yes. The on board computer is not accurate. It is not that smart to be able to know the quality of oil in the car, only quantity.

And it really depends on how you drive. If you like to rev to high rpms frequently, your oil temps will shoot up. Heat deteriorates oil. With turbo cars, the engine oil also lubricates the turbo (which runs very very hot because it is powered by exhaust gases from the engine). So the oil gets heated even more. Might need more frequent changes if you like to redline a lot. The so called 10k interval is based on "normal" driving patterns.

I'm not sure how you drive your turboed car but if you care that much about it, it is good to let the car "cool down" after a spirited run. Just cruise around for 5 to 10 minutes before shutting off the engine. This will allow the turbo to cool down. It is because when the engine is off, the oil circulation stops. So the heat from the turbo does not get dispersed via the oil. The N20 does have heat management function that allows active cooling after the engine is off, but it won't be as efficient as when the car is moving.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

i kiasu so i changed at 1k, 5k, 10k

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Would like to hear some thoughts - I just got a second hand F10, which is a year old but the mileage only 6k. The car has not been sent to PML for servicing before. Would the engine oil deteriorate with time as well? Thinking of going for a simple oil change first before going for first servicing at PML when it hits 10-11k.

No harm.... I went to do outside oil change after 2k.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Went for 2100km oil and oil filter change at PML from the bill it used 6.5ltr of fully synthetic oil, cost $313.

Just to share. Cheersss and Happy motoring...

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Went for my servicing at PML today. Having a promo of SGD 780 for 3 service package. Includes oil change, oil filter and yahoo complimentary windscreen washer additive!

Pretty happy with the work done!

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Hi guys,

Just got my f10 520 few days back.

SA told me 1st servicing at 12k.

Is it advisable to do 2k servicing then follow by every 10k as per normal?

What about running in period? Do we drive below 2.5k rpm till 2k and after that oil and filter change then we drive per normal?

Just got my car so want to be extra careful as i normally only change car after 5 years upwards and first time owning a conti.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Wat grade and brand of engine oil is most recommended?

1st oil change do it at 2k km, before that during running in period, drive within 3000 rpm, then change oil every 8-9k km. don't believe anyone else if you want tip top engine condition

+1. And driving to KL and back doesn't count as a proper run-in.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

My SE recommended first service at 10k, which I would do. But, planning to change oil at 2k outside.

Run-in period is 2k and you should not pass 4k RPM mark during this period (BMW manual says 4K). If you can keep as low as possible should be okay. After this 2k km, you can slowly increase the RPM over a period and then hit redline.

Re: First Servicing for new ride

Keeping RPM low during run-in is good. Is it not 4k maximum as recommended by BMW manual?

Re: First Servicing for new ride

I prefer to rev abit more within 3-4k rpms occasionally during running in. According to handbook, keep it below 4.5k rpm.

Oil change does not cost much. Other mods cost much more. Hehe

Re: First Servicing for new ride

I called PML to book my very first appt for servicing. The CRO asked for my mileage and I mention 5K, she say no servicing required..so it when you are 11K..so should I believe her..called my SA, similar reply. All new bimmer already run-in..so follow the instruction..who to believe now
