Flat spot for E60 530i?

Just bought my E60 530i a month ago, after driving it a while noticed 2 issues:
1. There is actually some flat spot especially at slow speed (around 30km/h) while trying to accelerate. Car don't seem to accelerate and l need to rev at high RPM B4 car response.
2. At cruising speed (around 80 - 90 km/h), step on the throttle, gear does not down shift until I need to rev higher RPM again. Or can call that another flat spot too?

Is this normal or inherent for all NA car? But my impression for a 3 litre car is that there should not be flat spot like this?
Anyway, any 530 bros out there experience the same thing? I know putting a Sprint Booster or Velocity in probably can solve the Flat Spot issue but for the late down shift of gear I suspect something not right. So could be a Tranny issue that resulted in both problems? Pls advice. Thanks

Re: Flat spot for E60 530i?

hi viper, another bro posted a similiarproblem somemonths back. if i remembered correctly his was of a smaller capacity 5 series, not a 530i.

when u say need to rev high before car respond, the rpm shoots up but the gears does not kick down for acceleraton? coz i experience that on my E90 325i, especially after travelling to the summit of a twirling multi story carpark. or does urs happen even on straight roads?

as for the 2nd point, i think its fair to say that the car will not down shift so easily, unless u really push it. at 80 or 90km/h u r probably at 4th or 5th gear liao, takes alot of flooring to have it downshift. can switch to sports or manual mode if u wanna downshift urgently.

ya u are right the gears does not kick down until need to rev to high RPM B4 it change to lower gear . Thats why not sure is it normal for all NA car or just me.

its predominant for bimmer engines it seems. nothing wrong just that its undecided as to which gear to chose. whether to emain in lower gear or shift up. in ur case it ramained in low gear. fortunately the car loves to be reved. ever so willing to go beyong 5000 rpm!

Re: Flat spot for E60 530i?

Try resetting your gear box... Simple solution, just do a search....

Re: Flat spot for E60 530i?

turn ke to position one... ( if urs is key start ) do not turn on engine..

press key in once.. ( if urs push start )

with engine off.... press down accelerator pedal for 45secs....

off key........

start da car...

checked the validity of this gear reset method with CSA b4. it does not work on current E60 or E90. only the previous models will this apply.

ECU remapping can solve the flat spot problem experienced in your car!

I found that a sprintbooster worked wonders for my previous E60 523i. Only problem was when I removed it car was even more sluggish than before - just like an E230

if truly a problem better to resolved it before adding enhancements which momentarily improve performance. once resolved, sprint booster will prove so much sweeter.

Mod is bad. Stock is best.

Re: Flat spot for E60 530i?

Sprint booster (or similar) will solve the sluggishness and especially for the big engined 530, will really transform the car's behaviour.

Gearbox - if you have sprintbooster and put on Sports mode, it will change that downshift behaviour.

Hi All, Does installing sprinterbooster void warrenty if found by PML Servicing guys? Will sprintbooster work for a 520i? The 520 is a bit sluggish so the sprintbooster will help rite?. thanks in advance for the advice. Cheers Andy

Re: Flat spot for E60 530i?

ViperWarrior,

Dun mind i ask if you buy the car brand new or used?
If used, probably its the previous driver's driving style being learnt by the ECU making the engine and tranny more relaxed.
If new, then you then have you just switched over from a powerful japanese car cos the pedal feel is very much different.

Whatever is the above, take your car and drive it aggressively for a while and it will learn your driving style soon.

whilst u do that, switch it to manual mode and drive at lower gears and rev it high to "fug up" the transmission and confuse the cars current settings based on previous owners driving style.

what year is yr 530i? LCI or non LCI? first gen has different gearbox...
the non LCI is known to have gear shift lag.. you have to punch the accelerator to kick down...
the LCI transmission shouldn't be a problem
