fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

hi all,

i used to have an old manual 316 which has since been scrapped mid last year.
at that time, i didn't really bother checking the fuel consumption. i just remember pumping about $80 per week. and also at that time, it wasn't the only car in the family. so whoever gets to the car first drives it for the day. so if it's low when i take it out, i'll fill up.

now i'm considering looking for another manual 316 or possibly 318.
but with the rising petrol costs, i'm thinking it might be a good idea just to check with those drivers who are currently driving one as i'll be the only driver this time.

could anyone driving those early 90s model comment?

thanks :)

hahaz kz, mine's e36 316 manual and i get bout 550 - 600 per tank.

i would say bout 50/50 highway/city kinda driving.

do seach some of the older threads as i'm sure this topic has been discussed here extensively.

Re: fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

E36 318 gets about 600km a tank easily..

Re: fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

thanks guys :)

ya, i have tried to check older posts but they never mentioned if theirs was manual or auto.
by default, i took it as auto as most cars are auto nowadays.

great to see manual lovers out there too :)
if i ever land myself a bmw, i'll post it for you guys to see :)

Re: fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

hey leftfield, take ur time hunting and yup manual sure is tough to break away from, haven had the chance to test an SMG so no idea bout that, but driving an auto sure takes the fun outta driving for me..

Gd luck anywayz..

Ah Beng bro, hahaz we're driving e36s lahz, well anyywayz i'm not familiar with e90s but i guess ur FC shud be higher since u shud still be running in if i follow correctly.

In any case, i visit the red line pretty often so goin bout 550 per tank's really really gd for me now...
(no choice, i alwayz wake too late for sch, haha)

Mine E36 Manual..
Usually alone and 80% highway
Fuel Consumption: 10km/L (590-610km per full tank)
Using Shell 95

For me manual juz seems like more in control...especially when taking the corners. ;-)

Re: fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

yup, control's everything.
i'm not used to auto cars.
i always forget when i first get in to drive with one foot,
and end up stepping on the brakes with my left foot - causing the car to jolt to a halt.

:lol2:

ya i used to pump 98 then later switch to 95 when prices kept going up.
but i feel 98 somehow makes the car drive better?
it might be just in my head ;)
cos if you paid more than you would expect more - right?

haha
it's been fun you guys

Re: fuel consumption for manual 316 and 318 :)

hmm I dont feel any difference between 95 and 98 fuel in terms of acceleration or lower torque.. so sticking to 95 for now good enough for my 316
