Just got my ride back from... let's just say, a well-known paintwork shop... to spray away a minor bonnet scratch. Happy with the quality of their work, they're fast and not too expensive and I could pick up the car late in the evening.

BUT.

My baby was poorly taken care of. There was a thin coating on my exterior mirrors (looks like paint vapour settling if there's such a thing) that the boss initially acted blur about.

He took a closer look and then quietly used some wax to rub it away... didn't do a good job there either so now my mirrors are foggy around the edges. The only consolation is, it doesn't look permanent.

I'd brought along a new right-side front grill because the catches were broken - the boss showed me it was coming loose. When I picked up the car, the left-side grill was also gone and he simply "glued" it back with some black greasy paste. Maybe the catches were also about to break, I dunno.

What a raw deal.

Re: Heartache

Bro, can share your experience which workshop was that? PM if necessary.

As far as the thin layer of paint dust is concerned, it is quite common in older workshops where the wind direction plays a part. For instance, it has occurred few times at Sin Ming when the paint particles from few shops away could be seen settling on my car. Perhaps this might not have happened in a workshop located within a building (for instance AMK Autopoint). This is an exogenous factor not in the control of the workshop. Something that you might bear in mind......

May be the workshop that you're always going to, to respray your rims bro.......kekeke

Re: Heartache

I won't Lye to you guys - the paintjob itself is good, no issue... it's just that my car could've been better taken care of.

huh??? what??? hmmm.... oh... i got it... :)

Re: Heartache

Wow! I'm surprised in a place like that the car will still kena paint vapour. Really surprised to hear something like that coming from that workshop. May be a one off thing I guess.

Re: Heartache

I think they are very busy. I went there to get a quote to repair the hit-and-run on my ride and was given a crazy quote and was told to send the car in in 2 weeks and they'll take 1 week to complete. The quote was even higher than the other usual paint shop in Ubi. In the end I did not send my ride to them.

Re: Heartache

Yes they seem to be doing very well, judging by the time they wrap up each evening. Good and bad lah.

I guess my experience shows you don't always have to go to the most reputable shops - whichever you're comfortable with is good enough :)

Even the best restaurants serve up a lousy dish once in a while.

Re: Heartache

if its lye designs i dont think they are the ones doing the painting itself. usually they get the paint shop around there to do it.

Re: Heartache

If I remember correctly, Ah Lye dun do spray painting. Is there an oven at his workshop?

I believe he sub-contracts all paint work out to a third party.

Re: Heartache

Yes someone else does the paint jobs for him. But back to the issue of how cars brought in are taken care of, there's really no excuse...

Anyway it's not like anything was damaged beyond repair. If anyone's ride ever needs a minor touch-up that can be done in hours (ie you get to hang around and fuss over it) my little experience shouldn't stop you from going back.

For every customer that came away feeling shortchanged, there must be dozens of you who have only good things to say ;)

Cheers!
