Hello World

Hello World,

Currently driving a Volkswagen Scirocco and am looking at changing to pre owned IS250 (08/09) or e60 BMW 525i XL (08/09). Wondering if there is any advise on how can we determine if the car does not have the much talked about engine oil / leakeage issue etc. Also it is Dec 08 registered and the current mileage is 78,000 km, what's your view on this?

Lastly, during the test drive, when going up multi story car park slope, I can feel some jerking on the steering wheel, is this pointing to a major issue?

Any advise from all much experienced beemers are strongly welcomed, thanks all. :D

Welcome to the community Lexus19_78.

Your nick does seem to confirm your choice between IS250 and 520i.

Unable to advise on the jerking of 520 since no experience with one, my model zero jerking on steering wheel. Am sure advises will come from the 520 members soon.

Re: Hello World

Thanks ac323, will put that into consideration. Amongst R2D, BVO or Juzz For Cars, which workshop has the best service / value for money? Thanks for the advise again.

Re: Hello World

Welcome Lexus19_78. Whilst I have not had the need to call upon any of the workshops listed above, I've read nothing but good things/reviews about them. You won't go wrong with any of the choices, but for Bimmers, much has been said (and all of it good) about R2D's consummate skills - there's a thread how he's lovingly, painstakingly restoring a maligned and abused N52B30 engine block (and your future 525i would have a similar N52B25 block) - check it out for yourself, and then make your choice. Like I said, you can't go wrong with a pre-purchase check-up :)

I'm not related in anyway to any of the workshop sponsors, nor have I ever utilized their services (both my cars are still with PML at least for another 2 years) - but I wouldn't hesitate bringing my cars over to any of them after the PML warranty period lapses.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Re: Hello World

Thanks for the warm welcome fella bimmers. Am still negotiating with dealer on repairs, solenoid n engine+gearbox mount. Hopefully can finalised the deal today. Btw, target has been switched to a E60 523i instead with soft close doors.

Re: Hello World

Oil leak for bmw is not a whether but rather a when question.

go have a look and check for oil stains .... With that ask for VCG and oil filter housing gasket change. Along the way if got valve seals change that. Then go rev it a few times and see if the motor and transmission mounts how ..... Then go listen to the rear axles and check the brake fluids.

alternatively go pay a site sponsor and be done with it.
