Hi,

I am driving a 2017 BMW 318i and recently experienced an intermittent hock issue. 70% of the time the honk does not work be it how hard i pressed.

Anyone has such experience and what is the likely problem?

It's a Singapore car.We don't honk!

no need honk, use high beam instead

Most probably is a wiring issue. The horn does not work mechanically in the sense that it works by the amount of pressure exerted.

you can try DIY to dismantle the steering wheel to trace the wiring or simple ws job. Good luck!

Thanx for info, i will try to meddle with it but hopefully the airbag won't activate....HEeeee.

car goes to '"sleep mode'' a few mins after 0 activity so try this. Open all doors and windows and don't touch anything else. The car should auto shut down after a few mins.

THIS PART IS SAFE:
Stay outside the car and unplug the steering wheel either from the bottom or lower sides depending on where the holes are. Youtube has a few good videos on how to remove the airbag from the steering wheel clips.

THIS PART is SLIGHTLY risky
Unplug the electrical connectors keeping face away from the airbag. Clean connectors with contact cleaners and reconnect. As long as the car is in sleep mode i.e all electrical power is óff' the airbag will not activate.

Do not SIT in drivers seat whilst doing all this as it'll wake the car up.

Sorry to hijack this thread. But is it possible to change the horns on the F30 with the ones from E60? And has anyone here done it? The F30 horns are abit sissy sounding. I am actually embarrassed to use it. On my E60 and in fact on my E36 before the horns are really loud and commanding.
