How long does the stock tyre last?

Friends,

I know this may be an old and repeated basic question, but just gave up after searching the forum for a while. Need a quick answer, though.

My current ride is the E46 facelift 318 Sports edition. Had done about 20K+ of normal driving so far. So how long does the stock tyre typically last, especially since I cannot rotate the tyres.

Thanks!

About 35K KM to 40K KM.

Best to change before 2.5 years(Max) because tyre rubber will be harden especially in Singapore climate.

Don't flame me if I am wrong.

Anyway, don't save money on tyres.

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

i agree with bmwsilver... anything from 35k-40k km and 2 years, start looking to change soon... these are the only things in contact with the road...

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

as long as the tyre is still pliable and not "loco" rock hard, and have reasonable thread depth and you're just driving normally it should be OK. of course newer tyres always feel better, and one might argue that that fraction of a second braking distance could save your life, but also remember that these they are also big pollution culprits - they don't break down for years. look up the manufacturer specs when in doubt, they're normally quite conservative.

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies! The reason I asked was that the road noise has kinda become quite apparent lately, though the threads still looked OK. Would probably change the tyres in 6 months.

Thanks again!

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

my stock tires ran 72,000km already, less then 2 years... It seems to be still 'ok'
but i think its not advisable to use for so long

Hi ! elmotan,

There is any way to see how old is your tyres by looking at the manufacture date on the tyres.
Example: 0422 ==> Year 2004 Week 22

Next time you buy new set of tyres, try to get later manufaturing date as possible. Don't be fool by price because some tyres may be 2 years old and tyres shop is trying to get rid of them with much lower price :) And best is to get all 4 tyres with same manufacturing date. Swee Swee :)

Cheers :)

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

in the BMW e60 manual, it says that even with sufficient thread depth, you should not drive on tyres 6 years old... think about it.

Re: How long does the stock tyre last?

NEVER NEVER stinge on tyres........ most of my friends have problems with me when I say this.... they reckon the tyres are very expensive ... hey how much is your tyre and how much is your car???

For me I do about 17,000k per year and I change my tyres once a year............. ok I m an extremnist.......... Bridgestone likes me very much, so does CarLube........... ha ha....

you do understand that this is a distorted view brought on by taxes, duties, surcharges and a monopolistic dealer's supernormal profit right ? based on your logic, we should also use the best petrol, oil, wax, service center :) etc...

correct not to stinge, wise not to waste....
