How much for repairs?

Ahhh... i feel so dumb and stupid now. Just now i turned my car at a relative fast speed in the wet. Car spun 180 degree and hit the kerb.

-Both tires on the right side deflated
-right side skirts came lose
-right side air bag popped out
-1 rim cracked
-both rims slenting inwards

i just feel so stupid now. Going to call for a tow-truck tomorrow.. Now thinking how the repair costs are going to add up to.
Guys out there drive safely yar~ my heart almost pop out of my mouth just now....... feeling so so sad now my baby car kena so much damage...
I think i am one of the car idiots who never change out to better tires...

Re: How much for repairs?

if your controll arm is bent that costs around 1k per pc
rims should be quite cheap to repair (not sure about the cracked ones)
put back side skirts is cheap if scratched can repaint so the only thing that would be expensive is the airbag and the controll arm if you managed to bend it

Re: How much for repairs?

oh man, you have my sympathies....
was involved in smth similar...but mine's an e36 so cant help much in terms of cost of repair...

wat i can do is advise you to change them tyres....
always a gd investment.....
GSD3 or Dunlop Sportmaxx...both offer relatively gd performance in terms of wet and dry grip....
and relatively cheap as well.....compared to the premium like SO3 or PS2
i'm now on GSD3 btw.....

Re: How much for repairs?

oh n er, w.r.t. the rims, if they're not cracked, can be repaired....
but def not advisable, since no amt of 'beating' will get them quite like they used to be...
and if cracked, last i heard from my mechanic, u're asking for trouble to actually want to use them again....

just my 2cents, hope this helps..

btw, just a lil curious, how is it the e46 still fishtails like tt with the DSG and other traction control devices??
aint it supposed to help prevent this kinda stuff with the engine cut et al, as per the ADT??

Re: How much for repairs?

Sad to hear about what happened to your car bro but most importantly you're ok.
Drive safe everyone especially when it's raining every other day now.

Re: How much for repairs?

ouch. sorry to hear about ur accident.

i think both rims slanting inwards, ur control arms might be bent.
Rims i'd say go change them is better den trying to repair them. Must have been going quite fast for such a result bro...

hope u get ur baby back on the roads soon. all the best with the repairs.
dun think we can really quote u the repair charges. best to just send the car in and get it checked

Re: How much for repairs?

sorry to hear that bt the most impt is dat u r safe. Is pain to c our baby damage... guess tyme to change tyres. Drive safely...

Re: How much for repairs?

Re: How much for repairs?

Thankfully you're all okay.

Ouch about the airbag and the control arm, they'll be the expensive parts.

Take the opportunity to go for better tires (seeing that you're still on stock 16").

Take care!

Re: How much for repairs?

Ouch, that gotta hurt... glad that you are alright. Send ur car down to a workshop to get them to analyse the damage. I agree with the rest of the forumers that its best to change the rims instead of repairing them, unless the workshop helps to balance your rims and finds them okay.

All the best!

Re: How much for repairs?

Hmm, thanks everyone.... Quite a hassle getting someone to get someone to tow the car this morning. I may want to claim from my own insurance as it may not be cheap. My insurance is from aviva, called BMW emergency service, they call me to call idac...

But when i call idac, they tell me Aviva opted out from idac already. Therefore they ask me to call aviva straight to ask them where should i Tow my car too. But being a Sunday today, there is no way i can get Aviva. In the end, it got towed back to PML Alxendra as i did not know what to do. They told me they will call me regarding the claim on moday..
What a bad experience..

I am actually quite pissed with Aviva and Idac, totally no help at all and leave me in a blank, dunno what to do. Suprisingly the guy at the bmw emergency service was very helpful, helping me in all ways possible. The towing guy was quite professional also. Wanted to go back to PML because car still under warranty

One thing also, my stock tires have been on since it was bought 2 years ago and have ran over 70,000km pretty botak i guess.. Cant be stingy on them anymore....

Re: How much for repairs?

Hi there,

Are you sure Aviva does not require you to go to IDAC for initial assessment? From what I understand, you have to lodge a report within 24 hours at IDAC to make a claim, but you can decide afterwards where to repair it. I've heard from PML that Aviva is rather flexible, so I don't think going back to PML with a car that is still under warranty is an issue.

However, best to double-check with the insurer. Really sucks that there isn't a hotline you can call over the weekend. Maybe you can check their website?

Sorry to hear about the accident, but at least its minor and no one was hurt.

Re: How much for repairs?

xuexun,

U have to check your Aviva policy to find out if you are permitted to use PML or whether u must use Aviva's authorised workshops. If the damage is expected to be high, then u are better off making a claim from your own insurer than paying out of your own pocket.

But to have continued using those tyres after 70,000kmas juz way too risky. Good tyres (among other things) are important if you wish to drive fast and play corners. Most importantly, you are ok.

Hope to see your Bimmer on the road soon. Cheers!

Hello there. Yup, the first call i made to the BMW guy, he told me to call Idac. But then the guy at Idac say aviva opted out of idac already. He went to double confirm with his colleague and told me that if i bring my car to idac they will charge me the towing fee and accessing fees.

After that they gave me some weird number to call and I ended up hearing from the HR department of Aviva. However their office is not open on Sunday. Got to wait till tomorrow before i can cantact the insurance company. And website?? I go and search now...

Re: How much for repairs?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your car. Anyway I am with Aviva too and I specifically ensured that I could bring my car to any workshop of my choice should the need arise.

You might want to try the following nos (but I am not sure if it is 24hrs):-

Automated Motor Claims Hotline: 6827 7666
Claims Reporting/Enquiries: 6827 7660 Fax: 6827 7809
SAS Hotline/IDAC Call Centre: 1800 887 5151

That is the idac number i called which told me aiviva is no more with them... The first number has no on answering and the second on doesn't open on Sundays.Anyway, went down to pml today and they say they will settle...
The estimated repair cost is very high man...

Re: How much for repairs?

Most important thing is that you are unhurt. To answer your questions:

(1) Rims must change - even if they are warped and not broken. Too risky.
(2) Control arm likely to be damage. Gotta let workshop check axle and frame after an accident like that.
(3) Folding the airbag is at least $1K, I'd reckoned.
(4) Yes, check with Aviva if IDAC assessment is necessary and check with them on the authorised workshop. Dun pay on your own on major stuff like these.

Well, i also wished that he could take Alex's M3 rims, however, the rear offset of the M3 rims are too agressive for a sedan or a coupe.

Think that Xuexun has learnt his lesson and should invest in a set of good tires and not to drive too spiritedly in the rain or when its wet. Glad that he's okay and that's the most important thing!

Cheers!
