How much to replace all E90 Suspensions

Hi all, I just came back from a long journey in Malaysia. During the journey, I can heard sounds created from my suspension whenever I go over humps or uneven road. I was also once told by a workshop that my suspension was tearing out & need to be replaced before. Now, I think my suspension is gone.

I just checked out from a workshop & he quoted me for front & rear stock suspensions for $1,400. Any bros here did replace their suspensions before & is the quote reasonable? Any other lobang to share?

Thanks

Depending on brand and make, prices differ even for stcok standard. Performance abs would be more costly. SGD1400 for std stock abs plus workmqnship is abt average.....

Cheers.

I have this problem too. As car is still under warranty, i sent my car in to check for 2 days and PML claims no problem after that. Sound was gone but 5 days later, the sound came back. sianzzzz.

i was also considering whether i need to change. if price is almost the same, i will probably change to coilover. i am not sure but i think stock shock is probably in the range of 800 in total.

Hi, where did you get the $800 quote from? Isn't inclusive on full installation? I check out with some others brand such as XYZ coilover which I don't know how good it this quoted me $1450 with full installation.

Go for coilovers in my opinion. A decent set of reputable coilovers probably set you around $2k region everything inclusive. It offers better handling and probably more durable than stock suspensions and you can adjust height to tailor made your handling and if course looks!

For Eng Soon quote, which shocks it is based on? Not forgetting that wheel alignment is required after shock change.

Yah. Not willing to send so much as my car left about 3 yrs + to scrap. A decent one that can last throughout the years will do man.

Change all 4 to coilover & keep shocks + spring at home. When it is time to scrap, change back.

Coilover is more hardy than usual shocks. Unless u whack thru every single hum, it will not have problem lah.

I see. I use to drive to Malaysia to visit my friends n relatives. Most of the places are kampong or small cities. The roads there are lack of maintainance. Therefore, I am wondering by then the coilover still able to function to its best or not.

Paiseh (sorry). S$800 is a rough estimate and it is only with shock (no rubber mount etc). for full set, i was quoted with installation about 1.3k. this is for stock shocks. for coilover, kw shd be in the range of 2k plus while the rest i dunno liao. :)

This I totally disagree and this is with very very strong empirical evidence to support and based on experience and definitely people in the know would agree with me.

First off, stock spring rates are definitely tuned more for comfort and the shocks are made specially for the springs and with stock height. Stock shocks, therefore, should last min 80k to 120k or even 150k km. And typically stock suspension is trouble free with no noise unless when it is time to replace it.

On the other hand, I am sure many of you have had issues with after market shocks and springs combo, including coilovers. They make noise either immediately after installation, or after some time. They leak after a while, etc. I have really yet to see a coilover outlast any OE shocks especially with lowered ride height, stiffer springs, etc.

Just curious but how did you conclude that coilovers would be more lasting than stock shocks?

Re: How much to replace all E90 Suspensions

Agree..stock shocks/springs combo will outlast coilover..

Re: How much to replace all E90 Suspensions

I think I better go back to stock. I am more to comfort ride rather than chio type.

How much will it cost to change the stock rear absorber ( reuse the spring) + installation? I was told MA or PML provide 2 year warranty

rear original shocks with alignment and labour should be about 650 or less. Just did mine (e60) last week.

MA is way... way too expensive even with 2 years warranty. Do you plan to be keeping your car for 2 years even?

Re: How much to replace all E90 Suspensions

$600 plus sound reasonable with alignment. With current car prices will keep for at least another 2 years. Thanks
