Hi Guys,

How often do you send your cars for polishing to maintain that showroom shine and in tip top condition?

Thanks.

Re: How often to polish car???

Aiyah! IT Depend also on factors like:-

1. Sheltered car park - home & office or unsheltered for office but home sheltered
2. Usage - and where u go ........ & whether birds like ur ride or not.... work on Jurong island... Most important if attacked by birds... quickly wash it away! Or join the Singapore Gun Club... & carry your air-pistol ... shot shot...

Sometimes car may be "dirty" but so long as the clear coat does not loose its virginity is OK, liao lah!

Worse are those polishers who don't seem to have proper wash bays, wash techniques, use those cat claw orbitors and rub away your clear coat! If so, better not to do polishing.... Many of those wet look aiyah only last few weeks.. after the wet look is over.. terrible condition as their wax melt....

Many of us rely on those "teflon" type of coating.. and if maintained properly may often need to recoat 2 years later.. Some give u a bottle to wipe over.. can retain it's sleekness if u apply frequently...

Re: How often to polish car???

Teflon? Is that some kinda sealant? Are they only available from specialise groomers? How much per treatment?

Re: How often to polish car???

Very common nowadays. e.g. Toughseal

It is not exactly teflon as some wise guys always say .. not possible to coat teflon as it is too slick and need high temp. I think the word should instead be "teflon" type else there are non believers that will shoot my msg down! Most of the time, just spray water.. and light dusts will easily ... drain off...

But many people, here prefer DIY

I am a non-believer of waxes... as often it looks wet for a few days or maybe a week.. after hot sun... the wax just melts away! Carabula or otherwise... I feel it is cow-shit to me! (For males: bull-shit)

Re: How often to polish car???

bro what are the charges like? And seriously water is all you need for 2 yrs? I heard they discourage the use of car wash shampoo.

Re: How often to polish car???

Yes, because if it contains wax, then the wax will stick on and no longer give u a slick coat.. That is the reason.

U can buy their shampooo free of waxes or use things like 3M shampoo WITHOUT waxes.. Any shampoo without waxes is fine!

Re: How often to polish car???

errmmm..... for me, I do not polish but wax....

1)Water

2)Wipe off gently, not hard scrubbing or else you will scratch the body..

3) Wax (every 10 days) light wax...

3.1) Every 3-4days, 'Spray on wax' or those 'finish detailer' (just to maintain the shine) when I am lazy to wax, I hope you know what i mean...hehehhe..

hehehhehe....My wife thinks I am extreme blah blah cos every 3-4days I am at it....but I love the shine hehehheheheh......

Re: How often to polish car???

i currently wash every week followed by a sealant (zaino Z eight). gives it a pretty good finish till my next visit to groomer. so far i have been visiting goomers on average about once in 2.5 months.

wonder if this is enough

Re: How often to polish car???

All of us are non-homogenous:-

1. Extreme franatics:

1.1. DIY
1.2. Outsource
Both always spent more time with ride and very conscious about "cleanliness". Tell tale signs are often need to wash / some polishing at least a fortnight or less...

2. DIYer's - Forever DIYers

3. Outsource and practical - Often when car gets relatively dirty... would get it "done" somehow.. sometimes occasionally!

Re: How often to polish car???

no wonder your car is always kilat kilat lah

apart from the space, will there be sufficient taps or water points? hosing down the car of its dirt and grime takes up quite a long time if done correctly. unless other bros wana sit one corner and fag or something, we will have to take turns to wash the cars. might end up being a long affair.

I usually sends it in every 3 to 4 months. Would love to send it in every month. But $$ no enuf :|

Btw, for those of you who send your car for polishing, do you use shampoo to wash your car subsequently, or do you just use water? I'm afraid shampoo will wash off the wax or whatever thing they apply on my car. But if I use water only, I'm afraid I'll scratch my car (without the foam from the shampoo)...

thats a good point C3P0. Usually after polish the surface is super kim and goot. Hence not much dirts gets trap on the surface. Will just hose it and wipe dry. Until such time when it is too dustry, then have to start using shampoo. Try using shampoo's that do not strip the protective layer of sealant or wax coated by your groomer, think thats the best way
