Re: Ice Gurus Fall in! using old stuffs from previous ride for E90 ICE.
Branding is very subjective. Here's what i previously wrote on this subject of subwoofer selection,
http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/i-c-e-section/3081-subwoofer-dilemma.html
Woofers... how they work depend on how much air they push. Obviously its a function of how efficiently it uses the power given to it, and how much power is available to drive it, and when it moves... how much 'air' it pushes.
Twin woofers of course double your surface area.
Let's say... compare a two 10" vs single 12", or 15" for that matter. Which is better?
Assuming you have sufficient power for both config...
* 2x 8" will give you more surface area. (simple math).
* The 8" woofer has lower mass, so will have better punch, faster response (physics)
* The 8" will have a high freq response, as resonant freq is higher. In terms of bass, it will be punchier than the bigger woofer. 60Hz to 90Hz maybe.
* The 15 will have a lower resonant freq, and give deep deep earth rocking bass. 40-60Hz range. However, if you want it to punch, you'll need ooldes of power for it to move that mass really fast.
* The 8" will not give you deep bass. Pong pong instead of boom boom (hahah I told you I'm amateur!)
* Normal price? 8" may cost 140. 12" may be 200. It goes to say that 2x8" will cost more than a single 12". Plus box is more costly.
However, it doesn't mean that you should go with 8" and give it 800W RMS and expect it to boom deep bass, bass will just be slightly lower than the kind you get out of the 6.5" mid range. The physical size of the thing just can't cater for such work.
Similarly you can't expect 15" to easily give you the pong pong punch. In rare cases of perfect tuning, matching with enclosure and amp, you may.
For this reason, you see that the most usable woofers are in sizes of 10", and 12". My dream is always to have 3x10" in a sealed box, compared to 1x15" or 2x12". 10" gives me good response, best surface area, but its expensive and can end up too big.
