Is Putin mad?

I never thought he is stupid. But he is definitely a bold reckless cowboy who may possess a psychopath mentality. A crafty and smart wolf. Akin to world class chess player.

What if one day Msia swings by and reclaims Sillypore back as theirs in the name of nationalism after 50 years of disunity? What will you do? Re-taking back a country seems so easy these days...

Then again I don't think the Datuks and Bomohs there are so smart. Just look at the MH370 episode... already made them 'kalang kaboh'. Ok irrelevant. Maybe on contrary we can even claim JB and Iskandar.. !

Re: Is Putin mad?

The difference is the people of Crimea actually cast their ballots and voted for reunification with Russia ... or at least that's what the Russian Ambassador in Singapore reportedly said....

I'm tempted to say it has been rigged but it is 'democracy' leh... sounds familiar? *wink*

Boris Yeltsin and Gorbachav will rise from the graves if they see what Putin is 'un-doing' now..

Hearsay next are Latvia and Estonia. Just need to push for their political instability, topple the parliament and send troops in. This is really SunTze art of war. If there is slight fire, blow more wind to fan it up and take control over it. SART! Sounds like Romance of 3 Kingdoms.

Re: Is Putin mad?

No. probably a good way to score some points on nationalism to distract issues back home, and diss the west at the same time

Re: Is Putin mad?

If you read his story...you will find this to be just another day at work for him.

Re: Is Putin mad?

Actually how different is this from the Americans going to Iraq or Afghanistan and saying that in the interests of world security they are taking over a country...except in the case of the Americans, it hasn't really solved the terrorist threat that we still see today.

Re: Is Putin mad?

putin is far from mad. we r so loaded up with the stories of the WEST doing good that we forget that the muslims or Russians aren't always the bad guys.

for 6 yrs putin has told the west not to impede Russians interest in Ukraine. he said in Romania closed door submit in 2008..that the military alliance was threathening Ukraine’s very existence by courting it as a member, according to a secret cable published by Wikileaks. Putin said Ukraine’s borders were “sewn together” after World War II and its claims to Crimea, which belonged to Russia until Nikita Khrushchev gave it to Ukraine in 1954, are legally dubious. that black sea fleet has nukes. that black sea fleet is russias fastest way into the atlantic thru the bosphorus n the medditarranean sea.

In his own words. Crimea which became part of Ukraine in 1954 after a "personalinitiative" from Communist Party head Nikita Khrushchev. "It wasonly when Crimea ended up as part of a different country that Russia realized that it was not simply robbed, it was plundered," he explained.

Russia has always been a land with a deep past of invasions. the khans, the huns, the germans. stalin sacrificed 27mio lives in WW2.

Ultimately, Putin's appeal to history makes sense in two strands of his political thought: the memories of a Russian
empire that drive his plans for a Eurasian Union and his argument that the West's international dominance is decadent and
undeserved.
Where he trips up, however, is in his belief that history can act for a justification in Crimea. History is often
complicated and incoherent: Europe's ever changing borders don't necessarily justify yet another change.

Re: Is Putin mad?

All I want to know is this.....

.... should I start hoarding up on gold bars now? :lol2:

Re: Is Putin mad?

I think after seeing how "organised" malaysia can be and how "well" their submarine performs, i think they are more afraid of us invading them.

Re: Is Putin mad?

They found gold, plutonium, uranium, or crude oil in Crimea ?

Russians chicken plucking Ukraine ....

Re: Is Putin mad?

the fact is that after the soviet union...nato n the EU and all the US allies...start to encroach towards russias border. its very dangerous. putin will not hv nato at his front door.....and next to his giant blacksea fleet with nukes.

pull out the map and u will understand how important crimea is with that port. under treaty. the black sea fleet cannot pass turkey's bhosporus because that's NATO controlled as turkey joined the EU.

way I look at it. the west is forcing Russia into a tight spot. its lash back time.

Re: Is Putin mad?

Not by that frowning auntie in the black dress in the background, NO THANKS!

Malaysia's known standing army strength is around 110,000 personnel (+ 310,000 reservists & paramilitary) vs Singapore's 72,500 (+ 356,000 reservists). Should be quite evenly matched, unless we do a Woodlands checkpoint style self-pawned gabra occifer.... then, we all better start learning Malay STAT.
