Issues with New E60 523

Its been exactly 13 days since I collected my new 523. Allow me to share my experience with some brudders here:

It was raining on the day that I collected my car. One day later, I sent my car to Cazcomp for polishing. Before they started, they pointed out a whole bunch of water marks on my bonnet. They said that his could only be minimised, but cannot be removed. Imagine! One day of rain, and there are permanent water marks. Cazcomp also pointed out some of the scratches on the boot of the car, and some swirl marks around almost the whole car. I can only imagine where they came from given that I collected the car one day before, and drove less than 20km on it!

Within 7 days of collecting the car, the mouldy smell from the aircon started to come out. Additionally, there was a very jerky motion when the car is in 1st gear (of the automatic gear). So I sent it back to performance. Service advisor says that 1) He removed the mouldy smell by cleaning the 'system', 2) he adjusted the settings on the adaptive gearbox, and that it would take time for the car to adjust to my style of driving. When asked how long it would take, he said could take a few months!

I collected the car back 2 nights ago, and this morning when I started the car, the mouldy smell is back. To think they 'fixed' the problem only 2 days ago!

I know that there is another thread on mouldy air cons, and I know that there are solutions out there. But to experience it so soon after I collect my car? Now thats a different story.

Any one else had similar experiences?

i had the mouldy smell after having the car for about a month, but after awhile, the smell is gone.

Bro,
sorry to hear. In this world so called if people see you timid, you sure kena jiak. If I were u I go into their main showroom at alexandra on sat mroning n KPKB in front o their customers viewing cars. I think u shld write a letter to Stupid Rockie that u have this issue with yr car, and if u dont hear from anyone competent from PML in next 48 hrs, u will personally go to their showroom and look for someone who can attend to yr problems. And I think u shld cc to BMW Asia and maybe BMW GMBH.

ps. I think lawyers on this board shld advise if the freaking purchase agreement shld be revised to give PML customers better protection?

Hi Bro, I have the same 2 problems you have on my 520i. My car its almost 1.5 years old now and the problem has been there for more than 1 year. I have sent back to Perfomance upteem times and it has never resolve.
For the air smell, during the nite, switch the control to have air from outside circulate inside, as the air in the nite or early morning is clean from outside. Leave it for about an hour when driving. Switch back to inside air circulation again the next day n the smell is gone. It will come back abt 3-4 mths later and repeat the same thing.
For the pulling or jerking, they have done all kinds of things ( according to Perfomance) but it never get fix. Yours is only on 1st gear, for mine, it sometimes happen while it was cruising on 3rd/4th gear too. Hope yours is reslove soon and let me know who is the advisor in Performance that I can seek help.

off and on, do try to let outside air come in to cleanse the bacteria. there would be build up over the months, and you need some air to enter to clear it.

I alwes switch on the heater once every 3 mths, and windows down to cook the bacteria. However, mine is the e39, dunno if the same logic applies

Re: Issues with New E60 523

Actually, since the problem arose, I have been letting the outside air in. But still no help.

The smell is a very sick smell. I cannot even begin to describe it!

Interestingly, I drove an E39 till it was 7 years old, and I never had a problem like this.

Re: Issues with New E60 523

..sori to hear your bad experiences with your E60.as i did mentioned on my earlier thread, try blasting your aircon in the heater mode for 5-10mins and then switch it back to normal.Guess, that will do the trick as i did encountered similiar problems when i collected my E60 2 years ago.good luck!

Re: Issues with New E60 523

Actually, I realise that by NOT letting the outside air in, it would be better. The humidity of the outside air would allow bacteria to form instead. When my aircon was starting to stink up, I shut it off (closed the recirc) and did that for about 2 months, the smell went away..

Re: Issues with New E60 523

Sorry to hear that your new car is giving you more grief at the moment than pleasure...

I know it's too little late now to say this now but I thoroughly checked my car when I collected it for any scratches etc. That way, if anything is not up to your standard you can point it out immediately. What they'll do is apply some polish and polish for you on the spot. I don't know what they'll do if you still don't accept the condition... maybe they'll respray that panel for you???

As for the mouldy smell, you'll just have to live with it. I've sent my E90 back to PML countless of times and even changed the condenser coil (which took them nearly a week) but the smell keeps coming back. The Service Advisor could only advise me to put an air freshener in the car to mask it.
I've tried switching on the heater while circulating the air and it helps for a while but the smell comes back very quickly.

Re: Issues with New E60 523

hmmm.. seems like something is not right at all with the E60...

is it dependent on the batch? if it such a recurrent problem, then BMW should sort if out..

I think the gearshift is odd..

BMW auto boxes are supposed to be silky smooth, unless its SMG..
Wonder if its becos they tried to increased the shift speed electronically and hence affect the gear changes?

very strange to me, and very very unusual for a autobox steptronic BMW.

Re: Issues with New E60 523

I feel that while looking to lawyers can be a solution in some instance but given where you are today, I do not believe that it has come to that yet. You should be very 'polite' but very insistent on getting what you want (from your e-mail, I am not really sure what you want and you need to decide on this). You need to convince them that you are entitled to some form of compensation (for instance, maybe an annual polishing package from them). Be firm to PML but don't be rude. People higher up are usually threatened more by a calm composure rather than the loudness of a dissatisfied customer. Hope this works!

Re: Issues with New E60 523

Last night I assisted a e60 owner who's doors locked by itself with the key still in inside the car and engine running. All she did apparently was to get out to load up her shopping. Luckily the baby was outside, or I would have broken the window for her. Hotline was wasn't much help, they advised to go home and get spare keys!! The car was locked, yet fuel cover flap was not. Very strange....

Re: Issues with New E60 523

agree with you on the 523 jerky gear change...

some problems encountered include jerk (like dumping clutch) when accelerating off from standstill if you are anything less than bloody gentle on the throttle...stepping quickly or too much will cause the jerk for sure...tried so many times and same problem

another thing is when parking...switching from P to R and vice versa often brings a pronounced jerk as though the gears have been forcibly engaged...thats how i would describe it...dont think im the only one to encounter this

Re: Issues with New E60 523

i do not have the aircon problem but when i collected my car and send for tinting. i manage to spot a few scratches on my boot on the strong lights... called my SE and he asked me to send back b4 7 days to have it removed by polishing... i didnt bother abt it and send to my groomer to have it removed...

if i am not wrong, water marks can br removed...
